Exciting things are happening in the Memorial District, with Houston-based Midway working on new projects at CITYCENTRE. There are two big developments, one called CITYCENTRE Two and another called CITYCENTRE Seven.
CITYCENTRE Two is already 96% leased, and Amazon Web Services, Jacobs, Infosys, and Pin Oak will occupy some of the new office space. The space is now open, so come on by and check it out.
"We are thrilled that CITYCENTRE is emerging as an innovation hub for new office tenants," Robert Williamson, vice president of investment management for Midway, said in a press release regarding the CITYCENTRE Two space. "These companies are pioneers of technology and energy, and it is humbling to be able to offer these top-of-the-line office spaces for Houstonians in the process."
Then, CITYCENTRE Seven will include modern office spaces, a beautiful new hotel, and ground-floor retail. It will surround about one acre of land. Located on the site of the former Four Points by Sheraton Hotel at the southeast corner of Interstate 10 and Beltway 8, CITYCENTRE Seven is expected to open in early 2022.
Midway also hired a new senior vice president of hospitality development, Jonathan Horowitz, who will lead the company's new in-house hospitality development group. The creation of this new group coincides with the CITYCENTRE Seven effort and the new hotel and restaurants.
"There exists a unique opportunity to further expand upon Midway's hospitality holdings through organic growth, strategic partnerships, and potential acquisitions; I am looking forward to leading that effort," Horowitz recently told the Houston Business Journal. One of his team's objectives will be to review Midway's restaurant segment, which means new and exciting dining experiences could be on the horizon for CITYCENTRE soon as well.
Stay tuned for further details about the new shops, restaurants, workspaces, and hotel experiences!

Welcome to the District, The Flora Culture. Located in CITYCENTRE, The Flora Culture offers a fresh take on finding your new plant friends and chic pots to house them in. We asked Jemine Oakes, the founder of The Flora Culture, about how they came to plant their shop in the District.
Tell us about your business and what led you to the Memorial District.
The Flora Culture was born with a clear vision: to grow a lifestyle that integrates nature’s beauty. Founded by designers and horticulturalists Matthew and Jemine Oakes, The Flora Culture specializes in curated interior-scaping services to inspire first-time home, office plant owners, and experts alike. Their goal is to encourage curiosity, feed creativity, and continually learn to compose with the natural world. With a focus on education, the shop’s services include experiential classes, in-space consults, and other tools to empower clients to care for, raise and design with plants. Opening up a location at CITYCENTRE aligns with what The Flora Culture brand stands for. We believe that our shop will bring even more life by emphasizing the aspects of design and the consumer experience that already exist at CITYCENTRE.

Our team is ready to answer any questions customers have about plants and can make recommendations.
What do you want the Memorial District readers to know?
There’s no such thing as a black thumb! There is a plant out there for everyone; you just need to find the right fit for you. With the right tools, you can keep a plant alive and thriving and become a successful plant parent with that desirable green thumb.

Many people in Houston, Texas, will go pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. And in the Memorial District, you can find ways to help breast cancer patients and survivors throughout the year.
The 2021 Susan G. Komen Hope Car Parade through CITYCENTRE is set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 18. This event is an excellent way to honor breast cancer survivors and support people currently in a battle with the disease. Afterward, visit the Plaza to see the memorial wall and flags that represent loved ones lost to breast cancer. This event is for survivors, family, friends, and supporters, and it is a safe, physically distanced way to share hope for people who have metastatic breast cancer. Decorate your vehicle in pink and add inspirational messages to encourage others.
The Hope Car Parade is a great way to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month early. Then, in October, attend events like the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to raise funds for cancer research. It returns to Houston as an in-person event this year on October 2 in downtown Houston. The Susan G. Komen Greater Houston funds more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit. The organization has invested more than $1.1 billion in research. More than 10,100 people reach out for help from the organization each week, and it serves more than 250 counties in Texas.
In October, many businesses and organizations that call the Memorial District home will add unique opportunities that support breast cancer awareness causes. Follow us on social media to see occasional updates from companies like Kendra Scott, Burn Boot Camp, State Fare, Three Brothers Bakery, Vera Bradley, and Brighton Collectibles, which have donated to organizations that do important work for cancer research.
Moreover, keep an eye out for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center’s blood drives in the Memorial District at places like Memorial City Mall and CITYCENTRE. Blood donations are important for breast cancer patients who need blood transfusions in recovery, so participating in one of these events is a great way to support patients.
Learn more about the Hope Car Parade here and more about the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure here.
Fishing is a big sport in the Houston area. If you are an avid fishing lover, you have hopefully found Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU).
Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU) is a Houston-based fishing tackle/marine accessory retailer. It was founded in 1979 under its original name, Cut Rate Sporting Goods, by two Houston native brothers, Joe and Danny Meyer. The 30,000 square foot Memorial District store at 10303 Katy Freeway opened in 1984. It is a one-stop shop for any of your fishing needs, from equipment to apparel to accessories.
Their mission is to provide all fishing enthusiasts with the best quality and selection of tackle and gear through courteous, competent, and professional service in an impeccably comfortable, clean, and secure atmosphere that will encourage customer satisfaction.
And if you were thinking about putting away your fishing equipment for the fall, think again. Autumn can be the best fishing time of the year. Many lakes become stocked up on largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, pike, perch, muskie, and crappie. If you’re still looking to do saltwater fishing, casting your line could catch you some speckled trout, redfish, flounder, king mackerel, and yellowfin tuna. Be sure to get in on the fall catch before the winter season settles in!
Fishing Tackle Unlimited is the largest independent dealer for Shimano, Simms, Costa Del Mar, Daiwa, Jackson, and many more brands. Their fly department is equipped with experienced fly fishers. In addition, if you are looking for Blue Water, Trolling Motors Sales, service and installation, rod building, tackles, lures, bait, leader lines, kayak sails and rigging, fishing apparel, and gear for hot and cold weather, Fishing Tackle Unlimited is the place to go. They can outfit the largest of sportfishing boats.
Fishing Tackle Unlimited will hold its Annual Inshore Expo, Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They will have casting, fly-tying demonstrations, seminars, and more. Many Fridays throughout the year, you can find movies that are fun for the whole family at Friday Family Movie Night at the Square in Memorial City Mall. The movies appeal to people of all ages—young or young at heart. They usually start around 8 p.m., and they are a fun chance to spend some time outdoors. You can bring a blanket and set up a spot for you and your family in the grassy part of the Square. Alternatively, you can make it a dinner-and-a-movie experience. Just make a reservation for a table on the patio of one of the great Memorial City restaurants surrounding the Square, such as California Pizza Kitchen, Maggiano’s, or the Rouxpour.
So take a few hours and lose yourself to the magic of the movies!
