Memorial District book lovers, this post is for you! World Book Day is an annual United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) event that takes place on April 23 to celebrate the joy of reading. Whether you need new book recommendations or already have a to-be-read stack of books as tall as your ceiling, you can find places to bring out your inner bookworm right here in the Memorial District.
When it comes to finding new books in an actual bookshop, the Barnes and Noble (12850 Memorial Dr, Unit 1600, Houston, TX 77024) at Town and Country Village is probably the best place to visit first. Every month, Barnes and Noble issues its monthly picks of books that often showcase a breadth of genres. The store also has an exciting range of titles you may not have heard of, such as Grace D. Li’s caper, Portrait of a Thief.
This April, have dinner with true-crime aficionados, rewind time to a brothel in ancient Pompeii, enjoy a magical twist on Gatsby, recenter the women in Greek myths, visit an elite boarding school and fight back against 13 witches. #BNMonthlyPicks https://t.co/ywTityrDUO pic.twitter.com/o690I9vs7E

PORTRAIT OF A THIEF is a caper novel full of heists with a very fun Chinese American cast — and our latest #BNDiscover Pick! Urban Outfitters (799 Town and Country Blvd, Houston, TX 77024) has a quirky, unique selection of books for sale that you might not expect to see at a fashion retail store. For example, you could give Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka a try before this story hits the silver screen this summer over at Cinemark Memorial City (310 Memorial City Way, Houston, TX 77024) and Studio Movie Grill CITYCENTRE (822 Town and Country Blvd, Houston, TX 77024). Are you or a young person in your home into animé? Urban Outfitters also has cool graphic novels, such as Naruto stories by Masashi Kishimoto and Demon Slayer stories by Koyoharu Gotouge.
You can also find a wonderful selection of books for the whole family at Target Memorial City (984 Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77024). They have a fantastic variety of genres available, including bestsellers, fiction, nonfiction, mystery and crime, children’s books, thrillers, romance and more. You might also look to Trudy’s Hallmark Memorial City (303 Memorial City, Unit 834, Houston, TX 77024) for a light assortment of children’s books. As you might imagine, the books on offer at Trudy’s Hallmark are great as gifts, especially for the holidays, and you can pick up the greeting cards to go along with them there.
Although Spring Branch Memorial Branch Library (930 Corbindale Rd, Houston, TX 77024), part of the Harris County Public Libraries, is not right in the heart of our district, it is just a stone’s throw away. It’s a great place to find books to borrow and bring to a café, outdoor area, or restaurant here in our neighborhood. For outdoor reading, we recommend visiting a great Memorial District spot like the Conrad Sauer Detention Basin, which people already know and love as spot for biking and hiking. Want to spend time reading at a café or restaurant? How about giving Memorial District newcomers a try; for example, you could grab your books and head over to Daily Gather (800 Sorella Ct, Unit 940, Houston, TX 77024) or Postino Wine Café (791 Town and Country Blvd, Unit 146, Houston, TX 77024).
Whatever books you plan to read on your own or with a young person in your family, we know you can find great books and places to read here in the Memorial District. Happy reading!
Easter is an excellent opportunity to make memories with family and friends. There are fun springtime holiday activities for children like visiting the Easter Bunny, painting eggs, and finding Easter baskets. Then, there are great activities for the grownups, like shopping for the perfect Easter decorations and enjoying Easter dinner with loved ones.
The Easter Bunny hopped back over to Memorial City Mall to celebrate Easter and the start of the spring. You and your family can visit Mr. Bunny and get a memorable picture with him between now through April 16 in the main corridor between Zara and Forever 21. Use this link to make your reservation.
Coloring eggs is a delightful tradition that the whole family can enjoy. Head over to HEB (9821 Katy Freeway, Suite 170 Houston, TX 77024) or Randall's (12850 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77024) to pick out your favorite large white eggs. Then, choose how you would like to prepare them. You can either hard boil them or deyolk them by tapping a hole into the top and bottom and blowing out the yolk. The latter sounds messy, but as long as you blow the yolk into a bowl and toss out the eggshell pieces, it should be entertaining for the youngsters. Then, try a cool TikTok approach to dyeing the eggs and soak the eggs in shaving cream mixed with drops of colorful dye.
Visit Carters in Town and Country Village for the perfect Easter outfit for your little ones. Check out their lovely floral dresses with coordinating cardigans, pastel-colored button-down shirts, and seersucker shorts.
Hunt for kid's Easter outfits at Carter's and find lovely floral dresses with coordinating cardigans, pastel-colored button-down shirts, and seersucker shorts that will take them from Easter Egg Hunts to Easter Brunch with the family. 🐇❤️🐣

You can find many fun things to fill your child's Easter basket at Target (984 Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77024) in Memorial City Mall. Want to add a greeting card to the basket? Nike expanded its retail footprint in the Houston area with the opening of Nike by CITYCENTRE on Thursday, March 17. The 5,298-square-foot digitally-enabled store provides a thoughtfully curated experience for Houston residents.
Consumers can now unlock the best of Nike online and in-store. With convenience at the core of Nike by CITYCENTRE, consumers can directly connect with store teammates using Swoosh Text, a 1:1 SMS messaging service that allows consumers to check available inventory and receive product recommendations for sports and lifestyle products from an in-store team member.
The Houston community can also take advantage of the SNKRS PASS on the Nike SNKRS App, which uses GPS location to determine if a nearby Nike location has their preferred style available in their size.
With a focus on serving women, NIKE by CITYCENTRE will offer women one-on-one time with store athletes who can provide product knowledge, bra fitting, and styling sessions. An assortment of expanded performance bras and leggings will launch at the end of March.
Nike by CITYCENTRE features products specifically tailored to the Houston community through consumer insights. Key sport-style footwear, such as Air Force 1’s, Air Max 90’s and Blazers, will be available. Popular Jordan footwear styles and Jordan apparel for both men and women will also be available.
Race on down to Nike by CITYCENTRE soon to see the merchandise available and experience the customized service.
You already know that the Memorial District is the place to be for the best in dining, shopping, and events in Houston. Now, things are getting even more exciting with the expansion of CITYCENTRE underway, the completion of the Marathon Oil building, and the redevelopment of Memorial City office spaces along with the planned development of a new office tower. These projects help cement the Memorial District as a leading center for business in Houston. The Memorial District’s great location and easy access to multiple destinations along with these new developments secure the Memorial District as the perfect place to work, play, and live.
CITYCENTRE Seven
Houston-based development company Midway recently announced the start of the CITYCENTRE Seven project. Replacing the former Four Points by Sheraton Hotel to take over the convenient location at the southeast corner of Interstate 10 and Beltway 8, this 6-story office building will have retail experiences available on the ground floor.
CITYCENTRE Seven will boast 147,000 square feet—nearly 120,000 square feet of which will be Class A office space. Plus, it will have more than 27,000 square feet of shops along with plenty of restaurants, boutique fitness centers, spa and wellness spaces, and convenient parking in a 7-level garage. It will also contain a Marriott International franchise AC Hotel, the second in Houston. CITYCENTRE Seven is already 97 percent leased, with a great mix of tenants. The new development will even contain a 44,590 square foot pocket park of green space.
“The CITYCENTRE area comprises a very dynamic and unique mix of office, retail, hotel, and residential offerings. The overall densification of CITYCENTRE is a testament to the fact that our city continues to grow, and people want to live, work in, and visit this area,” said Chris Seckinger, vice president of Midway.
“We believe the future of work will demand more agile and fluid work environments,” says the CITYCENTRE’s websitesection on the new development. “Leading companies will deliver hospitality-level amenity spaces and provide greater work/life balance by integrating all the aspects of health, well-being, and personal time in attractive and inspiring places. We look forward to working with you to create an iconic office building and a world-class environment that will support your people in reaching their full potential.”
Marathon Oil
Also, near the southeast corner of I-10 and Beltway 8 in Houston is the new Marathon Oil building, which opened in 2021. The new building brings the Marathon Oil workplace into the modern era, as the original building sprang up nearly 40 years ago. The update means the new workplace supports a better and more efficient work environment that allows for better collaboration and use of modern technology.
“Our new home aligns with our strategy and values, is closer to our highest employee population density, and it's within walking distance to dozens of CITYCENTRE convenience, dining and wellness options. Importantly, it supports our drive toward innovation and the benefits associated with enhanced integration of people and technology,” said VP Curtis Ryland. “Ultimately, our intent is to create an efficient, effective workspace that can facilitate collaboration to capture the full potential of the One Team mind set: the integration of people, technology and innovation across the assets and support teams.”
Memorial City Offices
MetroNational recently launched the $20 million renovation of Memorial City office towers. This exciting endeavor will improve the Memorial City Plaza space by adding nearly 1 million square feet of office space. The lobby of the plaza will also see improvements, and Two Memorial City Plaza will have a fitness center and a conference center. Best of all there will be a covered outdoor dining area called The Porch, and people who work within the complex will have access. We can hardly wait to see how this will turn out.
This combined with MetroNational’s plans for a nine-story building at 9753 Katy Freeway truly makes Memorial City a business powerhouse as well as a well-known retail center. The building will feature unprecedented amenities including a lobby with hospitality-driven social areas, first-floor restaurant and retail spaces and access to the Memorial City Club and the new Lawn greenspace for entertainment and events.
Town & Country Village
Showing their strength as a desirable mixed-use development, Gulf Coast Commercial Group, a Houston-based firm specializing in retail development, management and leasing, leased the nearly 5,000-square-foot, second floor space at 788 West Sam Houston Parkway North in Town & Country Village late last year and has now finished renovations and transferred operations.
According to Gulf Coast Commercial Group, Inc., President Tom Lile, “While our old office served us well for many years, the convenience of being in a low-rise structure and in a mixed-use area like Town & Country Village, offering a myriad of amenities within walking distance, has quickly grown on us all.”
Nothing says love like thoughtful gifts, a fabulous dinner, or a fun shared experience. The Memorial District has excellent ideas to make your day special for you and your beloved. You will adore the sweet savings, fun dining, and exciting events you can find at District businesses for this Valentine’s Day.

Valentine's Day is the most romantic holiday of the year. The Memorial District's Hallmark Stores have unique gifts and cards to help you celebrate love with the most important people in your life.
Gift Cards for Children
Do you have young ones at home? Valentine's Day is a fun day for children to share friendly Valentine's Day cards. You can find boxes of gift cards that your child's friends will think are fun and memorable.
Chocolates and Treats
Sweets for the sweet! The Hallmark Store has delicious treats. You can find a box of assorted chocolates along with toffee or truffles with or without nuts. They have delicous cookie dough bites and nutty caramel clusters too.
Bath and Body Products
Give the gift of comfort with bath and body products like a plush neck wrap, a cozy blanket, or a pair of warm and fuzzy slippers.
Home Goods
Or say I love you with lovey-dovey décor, such as a picture frame that captures the spirit of the holiday with a beautiful caption. Similarly, if you and your partner enjoy your morning coffee or tea together, you could get a set of mugs, one with "I love you" and another with "Love you more."
Fun for Family and Friends
Not everyone plans to give a gift to a romantic partner on Valentine's Day. Sometimes, it's fun enough to share your appreciation with family and friends, and the Hallmark Store has excellent cards and gifts for parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, coworkers, and more. They even have cards for nurses and healthcare providers, firefighters, police officers, and military members. There is never a bad time to show your appreciation for those who work tirelessly to keep us safe.
Gift Bags and Wrapping Paper
Finally, be sure to wrap everything up in great bags or wrapping paper from the Hallmark Store. You'll find something adorable, whether you want a particular pattern or script or an image of Charlie Brown and Snoopy.
Valentine's Day is a great time to visit the Hallmark Store. However, the fun continues all year. Stop by for every holiday and meaningful moment, from birthdays to milestones, and you will surely find something special.

January is the perfect time to press the restart button and reorganize your life. Memorial District businesses have everything you need to get things under control, whether you’re looking to overhaul your closet or simply get some peace of mind.
If you need encouragement, head to Barnes and Nobles bookstore at Town and Country Village to pick up books with tips to help. For example, it has been nearly 10 years since Marie Kondo’s “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” changed the organizing game around the world, but books like this are still a helpful place to start if you want to get rid of things that no longer spark joy. Then, if you discover you have things to get rid of, you can say out with the old and in with the new by donating them to Goodwill Houston.
Once you have a plan, stop by JC Penney at Memorial City Mall to find items like closet organizers, bins, baskets, bathroom or kitchen storage, desk organizers, and storage furniture like bookshelves. Similarly, Target at Memorial City has cubbies, utility storage tubs, totes, drawers, and cabinets. At Walgreens in Town and Country Village, get items like new hangers, vacuum-seal storage bags, shoe organizers that hang on the back of your closet door, and drawer organizers.
