About the Memorial Management District

The Memorial District promotes the long-term vibrancy of our community. How do we make that happen? Much of what you see results from careful planning by our board of directors. The Memorial Management District works in partnership with government agencies and businesses to improve:

  • Mobility and Transportation
  • Environmental and Urban Design
  • Public Safety and Security
  • Landscaping and Beautification

Our top priority is to improve life and commerce within the District to benefit residents, employees, business owners, and visitors. We help ensure the Memorial area remains a stunning, economically strong, and dynamic community for generations to come. Now that you know what we are all about and why we love the Memorial District, we hope you are ready to make the Memorial District YOUR top destination in Houston.

It’s time to show Dad some extra love and appreciation, and the Memorial District is the perfect place to do it! We have everything you need right here in the District, including great gifts, memorable dining experiences, and events the whole family can enjoy. Read on for some fabulous Father’s Day ideas.

If your dad loves sports, treat him to a new jersey or his favorite team’s ball cap from Academy Sports and Outdoors (9734 Katy Fwy). If he’s an avid outdoorsman, he will surely enjoy the latest hunting, fishing, or camping gear as he prepares for summertime adventures, so pay a visit to Fishing Tackle Unlimited (10303 Katy Fwy), too.

Speaking of upcoming adventures, we think the men’s collection by Brahmin is a great place to find bags that can function as an airplane carry-on, a weekend carryall, or an office tote. The versatile Beckett tote is always impressive, whether Dad uses it for vacation or in the office. Find a variety of wallets, travel bags, business bags, and backpacks at the retailer’s CITYCENTRE location (796 Town and Country Blvd., Suite 110).

Coach (740 Memorial City Way) offers classic wallets, briefcases, duffel bags, and more that will make any dad’s day. A timeless fragrance, like Coach for Men eau de Toilette, is sure to be a hit. You can also find some unexpected items like an Apple watch strap, slide-on slippers for lounging by the pool, or even a leather jacket.

Then, you could pick out Father’s Day treats from Three Brothers Bakery (12393 Kingsride Lane). Stay on the holiday theme with their deliciously humorous cupcakes decorated with a mustache or a shirt and tie made of frosting. Or, if Dad has a favorite sweet treat, choose from their everyday menu of scrumptious breads, cakes, cookies, and pies. They even sell their own hand-roasted coffee beans, which are the perfect gift for every coffee-lover dad.

Does Dad like to whip up his own creations? At Williams Sonoma (12850 Memorial Dr.), you can find specialty kitchenware for dads who enjoy wearing the chef’s hat and being a grill master. If Dad loves to grill, get him stainless-steel skewers, high-heat nonstick cookware, or a top-quality grill brush. Or go all in this year and get him his very own outdoor pizza oven or Traeger Timberline grill.

Alternatively, you could skip the kitchenware and put together a well-deserved home-cooked meal just for him. Williams Sonoma’s test kitchen menu has a ton of great recipes for dishes like Skillet Spoon Bread and Pork Sliders with Cherry Compote. These dishes could complement some of the great steaks over at Omaha Steaks (650 West Bough Lane).

If Dad is a meat lover, take him to Texas de Brazil (822 Town and Country Blvd) for a delicious gaucho churrasco he will never forget. Be sure to arrive hungry because this upscale Brazilian steakhouse offers a wide range of all-you-can-eat meat, including marinated pork, lamb picanha, filet mignon, and braised beef ribs. There also is a chef-crafted salad bar and authentic Brazilian dishes like feijoada black beans. Finish the meal with a decadent dessert like the Brazilian papaya cream.

If you and Dad would like to spend some extra quality time together, combine a great Father’s Day meal with a hotel stay at The Moran Hotel at 800 Sorella Court in CITYCENTRE. When you book their “STEAKation” staycation deal, Dad gets a $100 gift card to use at Capital Grille (840 W Sam Houston Pkwy N), Eddie V’s (12848 Queensbury Lane), Seasons 52 (842 W Sam Houston Pkwy N) or Yard House (800 Sorella Court). All these restaurants are within walking distance of the hotel. He will feel like a king all night. Click here to book a reservation he is sure to love.

The Memorial District always has fun activities and events to enjoy, too. For example, you could kick off Father’s Day weekend on Friday, June 17, with “Live! On The Lawn” at Memorial City Mall, where you and Dad can enjoy some live music and peruse the Shops Under the Arbor vendors. Food and drinks from Ciro’s Italian Grill (9755 Katy Fwy) will be available for purchase while you sit back, relax, and enjoy songs by musician Chase Demaster. Don’t forget to swing by the Memorial City table at the event to sign up for your chance to win a $100 gift card to Ciro’s.

Last but certainly not least, you and Dad could catch one of this year’s most highly anticipated summer blockbusters like “Jurassic World: Dominion,” “Lightyear,” or “Elvis.” Just look through the showtimes at Cinemark Memorial City(310 Memorial City Way) or Studio Movie Grill (822 Town and Country Blvd), where Dad can sip on this month’s featured drink, the Don Julio Anejo Margarita, a blend of Don Julio Anejo, Grand Marnier, agave nectar and freshly squeezed lime juice served on the rocks with a salt rim.

With the shops, restaurants, cinemas, and special events right here in the Memorial District, you and Dad are sure to have a fun-filled Father’s Day!

Over Memorial Day Weekend at Hopdoddy, guests can get half-off the Roadie when ordering Hopdoddy's DIY Burger Kit by using the code "WEEKEND" at checkout. Or patronize Grimaldi's Pizzeria, where they offer 15% to service members, veterans, and retirees every single day of the year. Not only will you find the classic American Girl dolls that can help teach little girls the history of the United States through the girls' stories, but there are also activities like Flowerpot Decorating and Cooking with Dad in May and June.

Houston development company MetroNational is bringing big changes to Memorial City Mall including the transition to a town square. The company recently disclosed plans to modernize the mall with a 27-acre town center at Barryknoll Lane and Gessner Road. The project will include apartments, boutiques, offices, restaurants, shops, and an open-air town center with green spaces.

"It's going to have a completely different type of offering that we've never had here before, from the type of retail to the type of restaurants to the walkability," said Jason Johnson, president of MetroNational. "We also see this as kind of phase one of multiple phases of potentially repurposing exactly what Memorial City Mall looks like."

This project has been in the works for years. The demolition of the former Sears took place in 2020. Johnson explained that MetroNational collaborated with the community to ensure that the new spaces would feel like they were already part of the area all along.

"When it's done, Memorial Town Square hopefully will provide a place where families can go to enjoy highly walkable shops, great restaurants, and beautiful green spaces," Johnson said. "Houston may be a metropolitan city; however, Houstonians enjoy having a place that feels like it is all their own."

This new development will transform an area previously devoted to parking into about 190,000 square feet of residential and retail space. According to Johnson, retail locations will arrive first. Then, the project will turn its attention to the residential areas. Finally, the project will include a new 375,000-square-foot office building. These efforts will result in a tower with more than 250 residential units and 50,000 and 60,000 square feet of retail on the first floor. A new parking area will keep the site accessible with 1,000 spaces for the town center. Casual eateries and dine-in restaurants will make up about 35% of the new town center.

"We're replacing it effectively from an enclosed shopping center to now moving outdoors to a more lifestyle center with much more, lush green landscape, much more walkability," Johnson said.

MetroNational also intends to redevelop the inside areas of Memorial City Mall by adding a new entrance and green space, among other plans.

"From a standpoint of who our shoppers are going to be and what the market is actually demanding, the lifestyle component is absolutely something that we want to put our money behind," Johnson said.

Memorial City Mall is one of the primary commercial and residential hubs in the Memorial District and a leader within Houston business districts. It originally opened in 1966, and since then, the mall has grown from 200 acres to 300. This development project will add to the many exciting ongoing projects in our community.

Summer break is always exhilarating for kids. They can look forward to friends, free time, water, and summer treats. Of course, summer can leave parents thinking of ways to keep the family happy, healthy, and learning during the break. Fortunately, the Memorial District has activities for children.
With programs for all children, from babies to tweens, Life Time Athletic CITYCENTRE has activities to keep kids engaged and entertained through music, reading, yoga, dance, and sports. Children can enjoy kid-friendly versions of the athletic center's most popular adult classes with a Junior Membership. They can try 30-minute LifeBarre, SOL yoga, and SHRED at the club. For a sporty or sports-interested child, try GameFace Sport, which teaches kids aged 8–13 the fundamentals of movement. It's an excellent way for kids to stay active and increase their athletic confidence.
Life Time also offers swim lessons and summer camps for pre-k and school-age children and tweens. These include two electives each week, fun weekly themes, sports, fitness and gym games, STEAM activities, and healthy snacks and lunches. If an ongoing membership isn't suitable, you might prefer the monthly memberships, one-day memberships, or drop-in classes.
While it heats up outside, Memorial City Mall offers a fantastic range of activities for children. For example, there's always fun you can find at Frolic's Castle, the world's largest indoor soft play area in a shopping center. Kids will adore the three-level medieval castle with a drawbridge and catapult surrounded by an Enchanted Forest, complete with wizards, knights, and fire-breathing dragons. This expansive play area features the castle home of Frolic the friendly green dragon, his purple wife Felicity, and their young son, Puffy, who even has a new playground for toddlers shorter than 32 inches tall.
Enjoy the interactive sound features that set Frolic's Castle apart from other indoor playgrounds, including a snoring giant, a bubbling cauldron, a grumpy ogre, and other fanciful creatures, such as a frog prince and a baby dragon. Call 713-464-8640 to make a reservation today.

While you're at Memorial City Mall, register for summer camps at Adventure Kids Memorial City. They have engaging educational full-day or half-day camps for preschool and school-age children on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Summer camp theme examples include Spies in Disguise, Tinkershop, Weird and Wacky Science, and Fab Funky Art.
Keep those STEAM skills strong this summer at Mathnasium Memorial City. Whether your child needs a little extra help or is soaring above the math curricula, Mathnasium will help math make sense.
When you need to beat the heat, several local theaters offer affordable summer blockbusters at budget-friendly prices for more indoor fun. June through August, families can enjoy discounted admission to select movie screenings as part of a handful of kid-friendly summer movie series at Memorial District theaters.
Cinemark Memorial City has a summer movie program for children and families on Wednesdays from June 15 through August 3. Movies include "The Boss Baby," "Scoob!," "Paw Patrol: The Movie," "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," and more. Cinemark's movie clubhouse offers tickets for only $1.50 and discounted kids' snack packs.
Studio Movie Grill's Children's Summer Series occurs during the earliest showtime of the day, Mondays through Thursdays, from May 30 to August 11. The lineup includes moves like "Minions," "Kung Fu Panda," "Shrek," "How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World," "Puss in Boots," and more. Tickets are $6 per person and include a small popcorn and a small drink.
Finally, don't forget to check CITYCENTRE's summer calendar for Parachute Play Time from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. every third Friday. Make a day of it with a family-friendly restaurant outing at bellagreen, Cyclone Anaya's, or Hopdoddy's Burger Bar. Then, beat the heat with a scrumptious cone at Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams afterwards.
Happy summering, H-town!

Memorial District book lovers, this post is for you! World Book Day is an annual United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) event that takes place on April 23 to celebrate the joy of reading. Whether you need new book recommendations or already have a to-be-read stack of books as tall as your ceiling, you can find places to bring out your inner bookworm right here in the Memorial District.

When it comes to finding new books in an actual bookshop, the Barnes and Noble (12850 Memorial Dr, Unit 1600, Houston, TX 77024) at Town and Country Village is probably the best place to visit first. Every month, Barnes and Noble issues its monthly picks of books that often showcase a breadth of genres. The store also has an exciting range of titles you may not have heard of, such as Grace D. Li’s caper, Portrait of a Thief.

Urban Outfitters (799 Town and Country Blvd, Houston, TX 77024) has a quirky, unique selection of books for sale that you might not expect to see at a fashion retail store. For example, you could give Bullet Train by Kotaro Isaka a try before this story hits the silver screen this summer over at Cinemark Memorial City (310 Memorial City Way, Houston, TX 77024) and Studio Movie Grill CITYCENTRE (822 Town and Country Blvd, Houston, TX 77024). Are you or a young person in your home into animé? Urban Outfitters also has cool graphic novels, such as Naruto stories by Masashi Kishimoto and Demon Slayer stories by Koyoharu Gotouge.

You can also find a wonderful selection of books for the whole family at Target Memorial City (984 Gessner Rd, Houston, TX 77024). They have a fantastic variety of genres available, including bestsellers, fiction, nonfiction, mystery and crime, children’s books, thrillers, romance and more. You might also look to Trudy’s Hallmark Memorial City (303 Memorial City, Unit 834, Houston, TX 77024) for a light assortment of children’s books. As you might imagine, the books on offer at Trudy’s Hallmark are great as gifts, especially for the holidays, and you can pick up the greeting cards to go along with them there.

Although Spring Branch Memorial Branch Library (930 Corbindale Rd, Houston, TX 77024), part of the Harris County Public Libraries, is not right in the heart of our district, it is just a stone’s throw away. It’s a great place to find books to borrow and bring to a café, outdoor area, or restaurant here in our neighborhood. For outdoor reading, we recommend visiting a great Memorial District spot like the Conrad Sauer Detention Basin, which people already know and love as spot for biking and hiking. Want to spend time reading at a café or restaurant? How about giving Memorial District newcomers a try; for example, you could grab your books and head over to Daily Gather (800 Sorella Ct, Unit 940, Houston, TX 77024) or Postino Wine Café (791 Town and Country Blvd, Unit 146, Houston, TX 77024).

Whatever books you plan to read on your own or with a young person in your family, we know you can find great books and places to read here in the Memorial District. Happy reading!

Easter is an excellent opportunity to make memories with family and friends. There are fun springtime holiday activities for children like visiting the Easter Bunny, painting eggs, and finding Easter baskets. Coloring eggs is a delightful tradition that the whole family can enjoy. Head over to HEB (9821 Katy Freeway, Suite 170 Houston, TX 77024) or Randall's (12850 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77024) to pick out your favorite large white eggs. Then, choose how you would like to prepare them. You can either hard boil them or deyolk them by tapping a hole into the top and bottom and blowing out the yolk. The latter sounds messy, but as long as you blow the yolk into a bowl and toss out the eggshell pieces, it should be entertaining for the youngsters. Then, try a cool TikTok approach to dyeing the eggs and soak the eggs in shaving cream mixed with drops of colorful dye.

Visit Carters in Town and Country Village for the perfect Easter outfit for your little ones. Check out their lovely floral dresses with coordinating cardigans, pastel-colored button-down shirts, and seersucker shorts.
