Memorial Day Weekend is a time to pay respects to fallen soldiers who served to keep America the land of the free. It’s also considered the unofficial start of summer. There are activities, brunches, and fun attractions to enjoy over the long weekend in the Memorial District.
Begin the festivities with Friday Family Movie Night in the Square at Memorial City, where you can catch Toy Story 4 for free on the enormous 24'x14′ HDTV from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The second will be in the south parking lot of Memorial City near the food court entrance from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At the latter, all donors will get a coupon for a free 8-ounce shaved ice. Many Memorial District restaurants will have delicious brunch specials over the Memorial Day Weekend. For example, enjoy the "Ultimate Brunch Buffet" at Churrascos until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 30. Keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page.

Then, on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, celebrate with Memorial City's Remember and Honor event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a patriotic presentation of colors and a majestic flyover by the Commemorative Air Force. This event also includes a live band, face painting, balloon art, and much more!
Wine lovers, did you know Memorial Day Weekend coincides with National Wine Day on May 25? Houston bars can open at 25% capacity, while restaurants can open at 50% capacity, so treat yourself to a glass of your favorite vino in the Memorial District.
Locally owned Ciro's Italian Grill offers exquisite wines that you can pair with pasta or pizza. For example, the Brunello or Super Tuscan pair well with a portion of pasta. Ciro's recommends pairing its Parmagiana Risotto with a bottle of red wine. Also, ask about getting 50% off a bottle of wine with your to-go orders.
For steak, enjoy a Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinfandel with your dinner at Perry's Steakhouse or Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. Or try wines from South America, such as Malbec or Tannat, at Sal Y Pimienta and Texas de Brazil, which have delightful South American steak dinners.
Similarly, at Churrascos, ask about adding a sangria kit to your meal order. For $15.95, get a bottle of red wine and sangria mix. Check out the to-go family pack for four people. For $59.95, get two entrees, a salad, and two desserts. Plus, get 50% off a bottle of wine with any food order.
Also, check out the wine selection at Escalante's at Town and Country Village. See the To-Go menu for deals on wines. Over at Season's 52, you can pair a Pinot Noir or Sauvignon Blanc with the seasonal menu.
Then, visit Radio Milano and try a Nebbiolo or Port. Also, if you book a room at The Moran Hotel CityCentre for Memorial Day Weekend, you get 30% off your room and receive a free drink with dinner at Radio Milano. Call the Moran for details.
The Tasting Room offers happy hour seven days a week from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. You could get a delicious hummus platter and pair it with your choice or red or white wine. The Tasting Room recommends a crisp pinot grigio or a bold pinot noir!
Can't make it to the Memorial District on Monday? Then visit 024 Grille on Wednesday, when it offers a happy hour. This eatery has dinner with 50% off all bottles of wine under $100 on Wednesdays as well.
If you would prefer to pick up your dinner and wine, give the restaurant of your choice a call. Don’t forget, you can always find great selections at HEB or Randalls.
Whether you enjoy the big, bold taste of a cabernet sauvignon or the light, summery flavor of a pinot grigio, you can find the perfect bottle at one of the many establishments in our community. Here’s to an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend and National Wine Day. Cheers!
