Lily Rain: Layers of Style

CityCentre welcomes another designer addition to its fantastic lineup: Lily Rain. Bright and warm, the store showcases a colorful array fashion, jewelry, décor and gifts.

The Lily Rain website bills the store as ideal for shoppers who “live for discovery”, and it’s true. A piece in the window draws you into the store where layers of displays beckon you to discover something new: Lily Rain brand jewelry, accessories, candles, books, Giving Keys and stuffed animals. Fashion brands range from DL 1961 and True Grit to Z Supply and L Space swimwear.

What stands out beyond soft fabrics and intriguing earrings is the customer service. Staff greet each person that walks in and make a point of connecting with clients and helping them to find what they’re looing for.

Director of Operations, Debbie Flores, says, “I want customer service to set us apart; I want us to be a neighborhood destination.” Flores has been with Lily Rain since it opened the first store in Rice Village in 2014. Now the company has 20 locations. She says, “It’s taken a lot of hard work, and we couldn’t have done it without our dedicated crew on the ground.”

What’s featuring in fashion for 2018? Flores says transition pieces like lightweight pullovers paired with jeans or layered for a vacation look. Come find your own layer at Lily Rain’s CityCentre location between J.Crew and Elane Turner or online at lilyrain.com.

Don't miss the opening of the Queensbury Theatre's last dynamic production, Unlock'd.

A whimsical coming-of-age story set “back then-ish,” UNLOCK’D fuses baroque and classical with contemporary pop musical theatre in a story about the roles we are born into and people we secretly wish to become. The musical tells the story of Clarissa, a smart, passionate, young woman in eighteenth century England who has reached the limit of her frustration living in the shadow of her gorgeous step-sister Belinda. Belinda complacently commands the attention of every gentleman of court, so, as the last party of the season approaches, Clarissa decides this is the day she’ll get Belinda married off and finally win a suitor for herself. But in a world rife with vanity, vacuous courtiers, mischievous gnomes, prudish fairies, and plenty of sibling rivalry to go around, it may not be as easy as Clarissa imagines. Based on Alexander Pope's satirical poem "The Rape of the Lock".

Tickets now on sale at queensburytheatre.org.

For a great dinner date, check out the set meal at Radio Milano before the meal: Pre-Show Dinner at Radio Milano with Complimentary Valet Parking and an Orchestra level ticket for UNLOCK'D - $65 Please book the "Dinner & a Show" package on the website, and the Queensbury Theatre will handle the reservation!

Fashion takes a step forward in the Memorial District with Hemline, one of the latest additions to CityCentre. Located near Sephora the shop pops with bold colors and soft fabrics.
Shipments of new pieces arrive daily, so the inventory stays fresh and unique. The wide range of high-end brands and a mix of price points means that clients are likely to find a special piece for any occasion.

And no two Hemlines are alike. “Every Hemline has different brands. You can come here, go to Rice Village, The Woodlands and find something different,” says  Hemline CityCentre owner and manager Shannon O’Shea.

Part of the Hemline customer service means helping clients find a style or a piece they want, so if it’s not carried at Hemline CityCentre, O’Shea and her staff can pull from 25 other locations or order direct from the brand.

Another dynamic of Hemline is personal styling and private events. If you need help putting together a new look or dressing for an occasion, or just want to find the perfect top to compliment a favorite skirt, let the Hemline stylists guide you. Or better yet, get together a group of friends and host a private event at the store.

Hemline was started in New Orleans by Brigette Holthausen and the brand has grown to include 26 stores throughout the South. O’Shea managed both the Rice Village and River Oaks stores before opening CityCentre this year. Of the location she says, “We saw a lot of opportunity. It’s been great. The community around us has been super supportive.”

What are the trends O’Shea is seeing going into 2018? “The pantone color for the year is purple. We’re doing a lot of white-more than usual. Still the big statement earrings, the little pompoms on the shoes on the earrings. All the big accessories that you’ve been seeing will still be in and off the shoulder.”

Clients looking for pieces on trend and more can find something to fit their personal style at Hemline.Visit Hemline at 796 Town and Country Blvd, Suite 114.

Zayed’s Mediterranean Grill brings bold, fresh flavors to the Memorial District. This fast-casual restaurant opened its doors in CityCentre this month, offering family-friendly dining tastes for all palate.

The heart of Zayed’s is the grill. From shawarma to kebabs, beef to lamb, fish to eggplant, Zayed’s has something for everyone. Order from the grill and pair it with Zayed’s sides: hummus in many flavors, salads, hot dishes, Mediterranean classics like tabouli and baba ghanouge. Many of the recipes are naturally vegetarian and gluten free.

Everything at Zayed’s is made in house; the meat is halal and locally sourced as are the other ingredients including the produce and spices. While the commitment to making everything from scratch takes patience and work, owner and chef, Mike Zayed says, “It’s fun. We have a great team.”

Zayed studied Mediterranean cuisine internationally before coming to Houston and opening his first restaurant in 1990. Since then, he has opened Little Napoli Italian Cuisine and the Wine Cellar in the Theater District Downtown. After many years serving up Italian flavors, he decided it was time to go back to his roots and training and let Houston sample the flavors of Aleppo, Syria.

Situated between Sweet Paris and Bowl & Barrel, Zayed’s is a bright, open restaurant pairing rich wood with warm stone accents. Unique to this restaurant are the 20-foot-tall murals of photographed landmarks in Syria. In addition to ample seating, Zayed’s has a private dining room that can be reserved for group and private parties.  Valet parking is complimentary for both lunch and dinner. If dining-in is not an option, try mobile ordering or delivery.  Stop by today at 797 Sorella Ct, Ste 102 or online at zayedsgrill.com.
