State Fare Serving Up Southern Comfort

December 19, 2017

A dynamic dining option at The Gateway, State Fare’s bold take on Southern flavors are sure to please any palate.

The restaurant, on the southwest corner of Gessner and the Katy Freeway, is as inviting as its menu. Decked out in cool blues and neutrals, the mix of industrial and tufted, subway tiles and marble work in the best way, much like the food at State Fare: interesting meets classic with modern twists on Southern comfort.

Opened in 2016, State Fare is part of the Cherry Pie Hospitality family of restaurants owned by Lee Ellis with partner Jim Mills. Mills notes, “State Fare has a cool vibe, and when guests enter they are greeted with friendly smiles and a sense of true hospitality.”

The menu has over 70 items ranging from snacks and salads to chicken fried steak and mac n’ cheese. “The menu is highly representative of Southeast Texas cuisine featuring ample portions of tasty classics, fresh seafood and delicious salads. The creative idea behind the menu is to showcase the great food that Lee Ellis and I grew up loving,” says Mills.

In addition to great food, Leslie Harvey has crafted eclectic and innovative cocktails and curated a range of over 40 craft beers. Mills adds, “We appeal to local families, business professionals and visitors alike.” And don’t miss State Fare’s decadent brunch offering on Saturday and Sundays starting at 10am.

Mills menu favorites include, “Sabine Pass Gumbo and Ray’s Fried Catfish, which features my Dad’s recipe. Quite a few dishes are from family recipes which sets State Fare apart from most other restaurants of the genre.”
