Hope Is the First Step Towards a Cure

October 10, 2018

Did you know that one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women? Even though breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer as well.

Despite these numbers, cancer research discoveries and innovations have led to treatments that have helped the currently 3.3 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Increased education has also saved countless lives and during the month of October, we wear pink to bring additional awareness to breast cancer.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Memorial District member MetroNational is helping sponsor Get Fit for a Cause, a Boot Camp for Breast Cancer, being held October 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on The Lawn at Memorial City Mall. A $10 donation will help benefit the Bobetta C. Lindig Breast Care Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. There will even be a “Pink-Out City Lighting” that will turn Memorial City pink with over 2 miles of LED lights!

If you can’t attend the Boot Camp, we also want to bring awareness to the monthly Breast Cancer Support Group that meets every third Tuesday of the month at the and the Lindig Cancer Resource Center. The meeting is free and open to all and will be holding its October meeting Tuesday, October 16 at 6pm.

Finally, the staff and physicians affiliated with the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center share with us that Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a great reminder for all women to schedule their annual mammogram and you can do so right here in The District at the Bobetta Lindig Breast Care Center located in Medical Plaza 4. Simply call 877.40.MAMMO to schedule an appointment.
