Good Things Come to Those Who Bait: Fishing Tackle Unlimited Tackles All Your Fishing Needs

Fishing is a big sport in the Houston area. If you are an avid fishing lover, you have hopefully found Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU).

Fishing Tackle Unlimited (FTU) is a Houston-based fishing tackle/marine accessory retailer. It was founded in 1979 under its original name, Cut Rate Sporting Goods, by two Houston native brothers, Joe and Danny Meyer. The 30,000 square foot Memorial District store at 10303 Katy Freeway opened in 1984. It is a one-stop shop for any of your fishing needs, from equipment to apparel to accessories.

Their mission is to provide all fishing enthusiasts with the best quality and selection of tackle and gear through courteous, competent, and professional service in an impeccably comfortable, clean, and secure atmosphere that will encourage customer satisfaction.

And if you were thinking about putting away your fishing equipment for the fall, think again. Autumn can be the best fishing time of the year. Many lakes become stocked up on largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, pike, perch, muskie, and crappie. If you’re still looking to do saltwater fishing, casting your line could catch you some speckled trout, redfish, flounder, king mackerel, and yellowfin tuna. Be sure to get in on the fall catch before the winter season settles in!

Fishing Tackle Unlimited is the largest independent dealer for Shimano, Simms, Costa Del Mar, Daiwa, Jackson, and many more brands. Their fly department is equipped with experienced fly fishers. In addition, if you are looking for Blue Water, Trolling Motors Sales, service and installation, rod building, tackles, lures, bait, leader lines, kayak sails and rigging, fishing apparel, and gear for hot and cold weather, Fishing Tackle Unlimited is the place to go. They can outfit the largest of sportfishing boats.

Fishing Tackle Unlimited will hold its Annual Inshore Expo, Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They will have casting, fly-tying demonstrations, seminars, and more. For more information about the event, follow FTU on Facebook or Instagram @fishingtackleunlimited or call 713-827-7762.

Father’s Day is the perfect time to show Dad, Grandpa, or really any great father figure in your life how much they mean you. Here in the Memorial District, you can find classy, jazzy gifts that will make Dad feel extra special. Plus, the Memorial District is packed with exciting restaurants Dad will love, and you’re sure to find great Father’s Day deals at many of them. Here are some of the most exciting Father’s Day deals we have uncovered.

The Westin Houston Memorial City is hosting a Father’s Day brunch at 024 Grille. It includes the $21 Steak and Eggs Breakfast Special or the Father’s Day $34 Ribeye Special for dinner. Then, over at another fan-favorite Memorial District hotel, the Moran CITYCENTRE, you can find a special Father’s Day gift card deal where Dad gets a $100 gift card every night of his stay to steak restaurants. These include Capital Grille, Eddie V’s, Seasons 52, or Yard House. They’re calling it a “STEAKation,” and honestly, that word should be added to the dictionary because it sounds like heaven for meat lovers who want some R&R.

Over at Coach, you can find fashionable Father’s Day gifts made of leather. They have leather backpacks, leather jackets, leather wallets; you get the idea. If Dad loves leather, Coach should be at the top of your list of retailers where you can find great gifts.

Among the incredible Father’s Day ideas Pottery Barn worked up this year, you can find a pool table, a bocce ball set, and a wooden dart board cabinet. Their standing turntable is another great idea if Dad has records lying around and wants to take a musical stroll down memory lane.

Give Dad the gift of pampering at Massage Envy, where you can get a free $20 promo card if you purchase $80 in gift cards through June 20, 2021. You have to purchase this on-site, so call the Memorial District location at 713-457-3689 to learn more and make an appointment. Then, why not complete the pampering experience with some manly fragrances for Dad from Bath and Body Works? This year, you can find men’s body washes in fragrances like “Hero” and “Legend.” He will love the scent and the sentiment!

A great Father’s Day gift needs a great Father’s Day card, and you can find excellent selections at Paper Source stores here in the Memorial District.

When it comes to food, the Memorial District has all the options. Every cuisine you can think of is represented in our community, so we have ideas no matter what Dad’s favorite food might be. Of course, a great steak might be the first choice. Check out Perry’s Steakhouse at Memorial City for delicious steak dinners.

Churrascos at Memorial City has a delicious Father’s Day brunch planned from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m., so if Dad is a meat lover, check out this Brazilian-inspired restaurant. Similarly, Texas de Brazil has Brazilian flavors he will absolutely love (and devour). This restaurant has all the meat Dad can eat, and if he likes great drinks, try the caipirinhas.

Don’t forget dessert! Pick up some delicious cookies from Tiff’s Treats or some fun Father’s Day-inspired cupcakes from Three Brothers Bakery.

Maybe this year, instead of a physical gift, give Dad an experience. For example, you could check out all of the fun escape room activities at The Escape Game in CITYCENTRE. This experience is fun for the whole family, and it is also budget friendly and has been included in Best Of lists for Houston activities.

Last but not least, if you are struggling to think of what Dad might like this year, check out our recent blog post about summer activity and shopping ideas in the Memorial District to find some inspiration. We shared great tips for anyone thinking about camping, fishing, swimming, grilling, and catching movies this summer, and those activities have Dad written all over them.

However you spend Father’s Day with Dad this year, be sure to cherish every moment and enjoy making memories here in the Memorial District.

Memorial Day Weekend is a time to pay respects to fallen soldiers who served to keep America the land of the free. It’s also considered the unofficial start of summer. There are activities, brunches, and fun attractions to enjoy over the long weekend in the Memorial District.

You should always make the most of each day, and with help from Memorial District businesses, you can turn 2021 into your best year yet. Here are some ideas for popular resolutions.

DIET AND EXERCISE

The Memorial District has numerous restaurants with healthy food options, and many of them deliver directly or through a food delivery service. For example, you can get incredible salads at Salata and healthy burrito bowls from Chipotle, both at Memorial City and CITYCENTRE. The District’s grocery stores, HEB at Village Plaza at Bunker Hill and Randall's at Town and Country Village, provides lots of fresh produce and healthy food options to cook at home.

The Memorial District also has excellent gyms that follow rigorous health and safety regulations to protect gym users during the pandemic; and they have in-person options and virtual solutions. For example, the online workout classes by The Bar Method at Town and Country Village let you work out in the comfort of your own home or on the go. Members have unlimited access to the full library of classes. You do not need experience to participate, and the instructors will ensure you see creative sequences that challenge you at your level of expertise and motivate you to do your best. At the gym, members can try safe, sanitized workouts in person.

Revolution Studio gets rave reviews from club members, and when you see everything this gym does, it is no wonder why. The gym provides simple weight-loss strategies, life-changing motivation, and everything in between. You can participate in activities at home or at the gym, where health and safety measures include sanitizing equipment, common areas, and surfaces between classes.

A full membership to Burn Boot Camp at Memorial City has amenities such as camps, one-on-one focus meetings, and exclusive virtual content. You can commit for 1, 6, 12, or 18 months and receive special deals for each period. Every appointment starts with a dynamic warm-up followed by a 45-minute workout and a meaningful wrap-up.

Fit Factor at The Shops at Memorial City offers fitness training such as Raw Functional Training, Functional Range Release, Functional Range Conditioning, and more, and clients can target mobility, strength, core, balance, and other objectives. Similarly, Dominic's Ultimate Pilates Studio, also at The Shops at Memorial City, follows a safe and smart system of mind-body exercise that uses floor mats and strength-training equipment to achieve body conditioning through Pilates.

Whether you want to visit a gym in person or participate in a virtual experience, Memorial District retailers such as Lululemon at CITYCENTRE and Academy Sports and Outdoors at Village Plaza can help you get ready with excellent workout gear. At Athleta in Town and Country Village, stock up on fabulous yoga gear for your in-person or at-home routines.

Have a lengthy to-be-read list and want to make some headway. Barnes and Noble at Town and Country Village can help. You can discover new and exciting book clubs on forums such as Goodreads.com, or you can read one of the latest selections on the Barnes and Noble Book Club. For example, the company recently highlighted a roundup of the best debuts from last year to show one of this year's bright spots.

REDECORATE AND REORGANIZE

Maybe 2021 will be the year you finally tackle organization and find a home for everything in your house. Discover items to keep your kitchen tidy at Williams Sonoma at Town and Country Village, where you can get everything from canisters and cookie jars to drawer organizers and spice racks. Find design inspiration and chic storage ideas at Z Gallerie in CITYCENTRE. You could also pay a visit to The Accessory Place at Town and Country Village to speak with their interior design experts about ways to reinvigorate your living spaces. The company has home decor accessories, fine furnishings, seasonal products, and more. The best part of all is that you can have a conversation with someone who has excellent ideas about how to breathe new life into your home's style.

Our resolution is to provide you with great services and amenities you can enjoy year-round. Happy New Year from the Memorial District! We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

Does your gift recipient love the outdoors? You're in luck. First, while you're at Memorial City, check out Sun and Ski Sports to find products for men who love to bike, camp, hike, run, or swim. (Yes, there are also plenty of great products for snowy adventures!) Then, swing by Village Plaza to visit Academy Sports and Outdoors to check out the selection of similar products and all fan shop products for sports fans who love MLB, NBA, NFL, and more. You can even shop by city to find excellent fan apparel for Houston sports teams.

For Pets

Don't forget to spoil your pets with extra love and gifts during the holiday season. PetSmart at Bunker Hill in Village Plaza has everything you need to help your pets enjoy a festive celebration right along with everyone else in the family. And we're not just talking about pet food either. (However, you can find plenty of great food options there.) Instead, you can find toys, treats, and new beds. You could even get a fun, festive holiday costume for your pet. Top it off with a trip to Memorial City on a Monday when you can visit St. Nick's Park in the Dillard's Court with your dog or cat to snap holiday photos with Santa!

We hope you have a fabulous holiday shopping experience this year. Remember, you can find great products in-store or online from shops right here in the Memorial District!
