There are even opportunities for children with special needs and a chance for your furry friends to see Santa. And, starting November 23, everyone’s favorite musical reindeer return to the Mall every Saturday from 6 – 9 p.m. up to December 22.

Santa kicks off the fun and will pose for complimentary photos until 5 p.m. in exchange for a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to Texas Children’s Hospital. Then head to Mine Gifts and Monograms in Town and Country Village. You will find an array of beautiful and fun items for babies, children and adults. And you can make your gift extra-special with an exquisite monogram your loved ones will treasure for a lifetime.

Young and Sehee Rhee have been in the monogramming business for over 30 years. The long-time Memorial-area residents raised their children there and have owned Mine Gifts for 15 years.

We want everyone coming and going to the Memorial District to have a safe trip – especially on Houston’s freeways. The new Gulf Coast Regional Tow and Go™ Program provides motorists on camera-monitored freeways within the City of Houston with no-cost towing when their vehicle breaks down from either a mechanical failure or from running out of gas, overheating, or a flat tire. Tow and Go’s quick clearance of freeway breakdowns is an essential component of effective traffic management. It prevents secondary incidents, keeps traffic and commerce moving and, most importantly, saves lives.

Motorists on the monitored freeways can get assistance by calling Tow and Go at 713-881-3333, or, after downloading the Houston TranStar app from the Apple store or Google Play, click on the tow truck icon at the top of the screen.

The program’s tow operators, identified by the official Tow and Go logo on their badge and truck, will move the motorist and their vehicle to a safe location within one mile of the breakdown and even replace a flat tire if the necessary equipment and a working spare is available.

Tow and Go is managed by the Houston-Galveston Area Council through funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation. For more information about the program visit TowandGo.com.

Every time the Astros play, MetroNational will light the 2.3 linear miles of LED lights in bright orange at Memorial City and the surrounding buildings. Drop in at many of the Memorial District’s bars and restaurants to watch the games. Let’s keep those lights burning. Go ‘Strohs! #NeverSettle

Did you know that one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women? Even though breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,470 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer as well.

Despite these numbers, cancer research discoveries and innovations have led to treatments that have helped the currently 3.3 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Increased education has also saved countless lives and during the month of October, we wear pink to bring additional awareness to breast cancer.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Memorial District member MetroNational is helping sponsor Get Fit for a Cause, a Boot Camp for Breast Cancer, being held October 18th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM on The Lawn at Memorial City Mall. A $10 donation will help benefit the Bobetta C. Lindig Breast Care Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. There will even be a “Pink-Out City Lighting” that will turn Memorial City pink with over 2 miles of LED lights!

If you can’t attend the Boot Camp, we also want to bring awareness to the monthly Breast Cancer Support Group that meets every third Tuesday of the month at the and the Lindig Cancer Resource Center. The meeting is free and open to all and will be holding its October meeting Tuesday, October 16 at 6pm.

Finally, the staff and physicians affiliated with the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center share with us that Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a great reminder for all women to schedule their annual mammogram and you can do so right here in The District at the Bobetta Lindig Breast Care Center located in Medical Plaza 4. Simply call 877.40.MAMMO to schedule an appointment.

For more information on breast cancer and support services offered at Memorial Hermann, visit cancer.memorialhermann.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month.

The seasons are changing and so is the landscaping around the District. Summer flowers are giving way to the fall look. Flowers like marigolds and snapdragons are gracing the edges of the District.

In case you didn’t know, the Memorial District provides and maintains beautiful plantings at the “gateways” to the district: at intervals along I-10 from the Beltway to Bunker Hill and along the Beltway down to Memorial and at Bunker Hill and I-10.

These flowers, plants and greenery help the District stand out as a premiere location and hopefully bring a smile to your face when you are visiting, shopping or dining here.

Thanks to our landscaping company, the Lawn Management Company (LMC) for helping us keep the District looking great.

Grab your family and friends and get ready for a unique live-action game experience that is sure to test your wits and be a ton of fun. Escape rooms offer themed, fictional rooms that are chock-full of hidden clues to help you “solve” your way out of the room. Players work together to find and solve the clues, often with the added challenge of a time constraint.

With their rise in popularity, escape rooms have been popping up all over the nation and we now have our very own right here in Memorial District.

The Escape Game Houston is a 4,000 square foot space located next door to Grimaldi’s in CityCentre and offers four different experiences to satisfy everyone’s interests. You and your team will select a challenge and will have one hour to complete your mission and escape.

Choose the Prison Break to find out what it’s like to escape a 1955 jail cell. Head back to school in The Playground and solve puzzles to get out of class. In The Heist, work against the clock to foil an art thief, and race to be the first to find gold in Gold Rush.

Most rooms require as few as two players (perfect date night) and no more than eight. One room can take up to 12 players. Children 13 years and up are welcome so it’s a great alternative to family game night!

At the Memorial District we take your safety and security seriously. That is why we partnered with Constable Ted Heap, Harris County Precinct Five, for security services.

Sergeant Chris Sheffield and Deputy Mark Fornesa are among those keeping an eye on the safety and well-being of workers, shoppers, diners, and residents of the District. Stop and say hi when you see them on patrol!

The population of Greater West Houston is projected to grow from 1.75 million in 2017 to over 3.2 million by 2060 and West Houston Association is poised to address this population growth and all of the challenges it will present in its newly-released West Houston 2060 Plan.

The plan contains policy and project recommendations for eight segments: population and jobs; regional mobility; water resources; flood control, drainage and wetlands; education and workforce development; parks, recreation and open space; quality planned development; and sustainable infrastructure. The new plan is a follow up to the West Houston 2050 Plan that was rolled out in 2007 and updated in 2010.

“People are demanding different kinds of solutions,” said John Moody, Chairman of West Houston Association and Co-Chair of the West Houston 2060 Plan. “We don’t want to give a 1950s solution that we are going to live with 100 years from now.  This is a call to action—it’s time to roll up our sleeves and address our region’s issues.”

“In 2007, we said that we believe each resident and employee should be afforded the highest possible quality of life and work experience,” said Marlene Gafrick, Plan Co-Chair. West Houston Association members want to help improve the quality of life in Greater West Houston over the next 40 years by listening, advocating, and working together.”

Please take a few minutes and check out the West Houston 2060 Plan, download the plan, join the conversation and be sure to fill out the survey to help build a better future for the area.

The West Houston Association is a non-profit organization created in 1979 by forward-thinking developers, demographers, engineers, and consultants who aimed to bring “quality growth” to Greater West Houston. The association advocates for an area of 1,000 square miles in the western portion of Harris County and parts of Ft. Bend and Waller Counties and includes the Memorial District. The Greater West Houston area absorbed 36% of the population growth of the Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area between 2000 and 2015.
