Are You Ready for Prom?

Each year, high school seniors anxiously await and prepare for prom. How can you look your best and make sure you are ready for the big night? This year’s prom trends favor ethereal designs, florals and intricate sequins. The two-piece gown is still a favorite among many designers.

Camille La Vie in Memorial City Mall is a one-stop shop for everything you could want or need. Ethereal gowns have been seen on the runways of Vera Wang and Berta with intricate lace designs that are oh-so popular. Nude, sheer paneled gowns exude classic femininity with beautiful embroidery. However, colorful gowns remain a popular choice.

Camille La Vie offers highly affordable with most dresses ranging from $100 to $500. And you can find the latest shoe styles that will accompany your gown perfectly. A trendy look that has been seen on nearly every celebrity is the Lucite heel or see-through pumps. If Lucite isn’t to your liking, you can never go wrong with a nude heel or pump. Unless your gown is white, then go ahead and throw on those hot pink heels! Jewelry is also available to accessorize any prom look.

Worried about how you’re going to do your makeup? Worry not! Sephora is nearby. Just for prom, Sephora in City Centre is offering a deluxe prom makeover. MAC Cosmetics is also ready to help you achieve your flawless glam look for the big night of your life. If you want a little sparkle in jewelry, Pandora has beautiful earrings and rings to choose from. Looking for that pop of color in a necklace or statement earrings, Kendra Scott is always the all-time favorite for simple statement necklaces and colorful pieces of jewelry.

The District offers plenty of restaurants to choose from for your big night. The most notable places include Brio, McCormick & Schmick’s, Texas De Brazil, Eddie V’s, RA Sushi, Ciro’s and Seasons 52. These places are perfect backdrops for those flawless prom pictures to match your luxurious night out.

So if you know anyone that can’t decide what to do or wear for prom, send them this link, they’ll be ready in no time! And most of all, we wish everyone a fun and memorable evening.

Cinco de Mayo is often mistaken for Mexico’s Day of Independence but it’s actually in honor of a military victory in 1862 over the French forces of Napoleon III called the Battle of Puebla. It’s become a tradition to celebrate here in the United States and celebrate we do!

Here in The District, you have so many great choices. One of those choices is Cinco De Cyclone's at CityCentre. The restaurant is planning a huge family-friendly celebration with great food, music, a festival market, photo booths, and activities for kids. Don’t miss out on the fun and be sure to get your tickets ahead of time.

If you want a lower key celebration, there are some awesome Mexican restaurants in The District. Enjoy a celebratory margarita at Escalante’s in Town and Country or head to Berryhill Baja Grill Cantina for some of the best fish tacos in town. Guadalajara Hacienda is another great choice that offers a delicious selection of frozen cocktails. And Cazadores Mexican Restaurant offers Tex-Mex cuisine and Mexican classics and a fun and festive atmosphere.

Wherever you choose, make it a fiesta in The District. And remember, if you choose to drink alcohol, designate a driver or call a cab to celebrate safely and responsibly.

We’d like to welcome our newest neighbor, Dolce & Cannoli Pizzeria. Located in the heart of Memorial City Mall, Dolce and Cannoli brings authentic New York style pizza to The District. It’s a 360 degree, 2300 square foot kiosk restaurant concept created by owners Jason and Michele Piltzmaker, and chef/partner Andrew ‘Drew’ Rogers.

Dolce & Cannoli Pizzeria offers 10” New York Style pizzas, with unlimited toppings along with other menu items including fresh salads, soups, paninis, subs & more.  “In addition to our food menu, we also have a bar area with flat screen tv’s where you can unwind and enjoy our great selection of beer & wine”, says owner Jason Piltzmaker. “This restaurant concept was designed to make take out easy and eat in very enjoyable.”

Pastries are also a big part of the menu and include Cannoli, Cannoli cupcakes, Italian Rainbow and Pignoli cookies to name a few. “After my family and I closed Drew’s Pastry Place in August of 2018, our longtime customers really let us know how much they missed our NY style pizza, Cannoli and Italian pastries.  One of our goals in the new concept was to recreate some of the favorites that customers missed from Drew’s along with our delicious new menu items in an sleek and relaxed environment.”, says chef Drew Rogers.

Jason & Michelle Piltzmaker have been longtime Houston franchise owners of stores that included Cinnabon, Nestle Toll House Cookies as well as Frullati Café and Bakery locations.  The Dolce & Cannoli Pizzeria concept is their first start up.  Chef/partner Andrew ‘Drew’ Rogers is the former owner/chef of Drew’s Pastry Place which was open for 10 years in Northwest Houston.

So after a long day of shopping, take a break and enjoy some great tasting pizza, a refreshing beverage and a sweet dessert.

When it comes to fun, the Memorial District offers a number of activities for a family get-together, friends night out, date, or team building event.

If you are looking for a perfect location for a  birthday party, work event, or just want to have a good time with family and friends, come to  Bowls and Barrel  or Bowlmor Lanes.  They are open every day of the week and both have menus with delicious bites and drinks so you don't get hungry while rocking the bowling floor. After bowling, stay for the arcade, billiards, or watch your favorite sports event at Bowlmor Lanes while catching up with friends. In case you want to book a party or event, both places have experienced event coordinators who are ready to help you to plan and throw a party to remember.

Having a girls’ night out? Consider spending an evening at Pinot's Palette. Talk and sip on your favorite red, white or rose, while local artists guide you to create your own masterpiece, even if painting has never been your forte. All you need to do is check their event calendar, book and choose an event/artwork you want to create. Enjoy an evening of laughs, painting, and friends.

If you are the more adventurous type and like to tackle challenges, bring your friends, family, or organize a double date at The Escape Game Houston. You will have just an hour to escape from a "prison", find gold, recover the stolen painting, or attempt to complete some tricky assignments and pass your class.  Book the entire room (fits eight people), or get paired with other participants, escape together and make new friends.

Remember that The District also offers plenty of FREE and low-cost options for a perfect friend/family gathering or a romantic date night. Stop by Cinemark 16 at Memorial City or at Movie Grill at CityCentre to check out the latest movie, have a date night on the Ice Rink at Memorial City Mall, or come to The Square (Memorial City Mall) or to The Plaza (CityCentre) to enjoy Family Movie nights, live concerts, and interactive activities for the kids and the whole family.

Have a great time, share this post, and plan your fun in The District.

With the development of an 18-acre tract north of the Katy Freeway across from Memorial City Mall, MetroNational is pleased to announce that new office space and entertainment options are coming to the Memorial District. The possibility of adding a hotel may be in the future.

The news is already exciting but the upcoming expansion is especially anticipated due to the addition of three popular local restaurants. Johnny Carrabba’s family friendly concept Mia's Table’s will open its fourth location, bringing its southern comfort food menu to the District. It will be sharing a courtyard with its neighbor, Torchy's Tacos, who will be able to serve its delicious freshly made tacos to even more fans (affectionately called “Taco Junkies”). Both locations anticipate opening in Spring 2020. A little later that year, in Fall 2020, Kirby Ice House will open with a 7,000 square-foot patio bar, perfect for casual get-togethers, big or small.

According to Jason Johnson, President of MetroNational, the “major expansion illustrates our continued commitment to developing and redeveloping the 265 acres that comprises Memorial City. It’s also a sign of the District’s healthy growth and we look forward to enjoying and supporting the new businesses that will be part of the development.”

The Memorial District is Houston’s premier location for exceptional shopping, great dining choices, a thriving business community and great amenities all within an easy to get to and desirable location,” said Pat Walters, executive director of the Memorial District. “MetroNational is an exemplary property owner and I commend their long-term commitment to the vibrancy of the District.”

We are all about community and community is about supporting each other. Memorial District organizations routinely sponsor events and activities that inspire and bring out the best in us.

Girlstart's STEM Extravaganza was held at CityCentre Plaza recently and families learned all about STEM through active hands-on participation in STEM activities, all at no cost.

For World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, Ozark actor and Houston native Evan Vourazeris gave a talk at CityCentre about how to overcome challenges and bullying to follow your dream.

Earlier this month, over at Memorial City Mall, Eddie’s Walk of Life was held in honor of retired marine veteran Eddie deRoulet. Eddie is a stroke survivor who used fitness to recover and now encourages others to follow his footsteps.

“I see so many people who say, ‘I’ve had a stroke, and my life is over,’ deRoulet said. “I say, No, it has changed my life, but it hasn’t taken away from it.”

For the pet-lovers in the District, Memorial City Mall hosted a pet adoption event to help rescued pets from various Houston-area shelters find their fur-ever homes. And April 6 is the 10th Annual Doggie Party on the Plaza at CityCentre. The event benefits Houston area rescues.

If you are interested in volunteering, Memorial Hermann has many opportunities to help those in need.

To help entrepreneurs in the area, local businesses regularly sponsor the PopUp Business School, a free workshop for those who are thinking about starting their own business or just want guidance on how to grow their newly started business.

From health initiatives to inspirational events, from pets to new business owners, Memorial District is always finding ways to give back to the community that supports them. When our community thrives, so do we and we love supporting programs and organizations that empower us all. Check our calendar often for events that interest you.
