Mom’s favorite cuisines are in the Memorial District. Our restaurants can help you make a Mother’s Day meal. Churrascos, for example, can bring the flavor of South America to your dining room. Get a Mother’s Day family pack to serve up to 6 people.

Eddie V’s at CityCentre has surf-n-turf for Mother’s Day. Get a four-course meal with heating instructions. This selection includes Gulf shrimp as a starter, herb-roasted beef tenderloin and Chilean sea bass as entrées, and bananas foster as a dessert. It even has a set of chocolate-dipped strawberries and a long-stemmed rose for Mom.

Maggiano’s Little Italy can provide the classic Italian-American your mom loves. Its Mother’s Day deal is a five-course cold-prepped meal for the family and includes meatballs, chicken piccata, and fettucine alfredo. Call 713-461-0692 to order.

The Capital Grille offers Mother’s Day deals. Get freshly baked lemon blueberry bread or seeded French rolls, a Spring greens salad, and one of several entrees—such as roasted beef tenderloin and butter-poached North Atlantic lobster tails. Round out the meal with specialty mashed potatoes or French green beans, and finish up with chocolate espresso cake. Plus, Mom gets her own set of lemon tea cookies.

Give the wow factor with a “MOM” cake from Sweet in one of four flavors—strawberry, classic almond, chocolate, or s’mores. Smalls feed 6–8 people, while larges feed 12–16 people. Email order@ilovesweet.com to pre-order, or call 832-323-2931.

The Mother’s Day collection by Altar’d State has quirky mugs and tumblers, pleasant travel perfumes, keychains, and body creams. Plus, at the time of this article’s publication, you can get 40% off when you shop online.

Does Mom love a pop of print, or does she prefer faded seaside hues? Either way, J. McLaughlin at Town and Country Village has a gift idea in its online gallery for Mother’s Day. The store curated gifts for all moms, whether they dream of someday living on an island or think a wicker bag is all you need come summertime.

Lush can give an at-home spa experience with natural products, such as body scrubs and facial cleansers that are safe to use during pregnancy. Plus, gift from Lush comes with a side of the warm and fuzzies. Lush is fighting the spread of COVID-19. For example, it sent thousands of soaps and supplies to frontline workers. Consider a gift card or an online purchase from Lush to surprise mom and help others.

April is Stress Awareness Month. As many people continue to stay home, it’s important to combat stress to maintain our physical and mental health. Here are some valuable resources:

Mental stress can result in physical health problems. If you need help finding a doctor to help manage stress, try the Zocdoc app to find a provider. Memorial Hermann has a list of virtual clinic options. Click here for additional resources.
Talk therapy may be especially helpful right now. Try apps Better Help and Talkspace for mental health matters that seem manageable from home, or contact Memorial Hermann Mental Health Crisis Clinic locations about complex concerns.

Meditation is a good practice to adopt anytime. The Calm app provides audio content for meditation, relaxation and sleep. This includes bedtime stories for adults. The soothing programs may help reduce anxiety and stress. Similarly, the Stop, Breathe, and Think app first asks the listener to consider his or her emotions, and then provides mindful practices tailored to the listener’s state of mind.
The UCLA Mindful App has wellness meditations for people dealing with a health condition. It also provides tutorial videos to help participants improve their meditation postures and practices. The 10% Happier app offers expert guided meditations and teachings.
Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) is a resource for questions about alcoholism, drug addiction, and dual diagnosis.

While gyms and fitness centers are closed, you can access online fitness opportunities in the Memorial District. The Bar Method, Life Time Fitness, the Memorial City Club, and Revolution Studio offer courses you can download, or stream live for reasonable rates. Athleta offers online workouts, yoga and meditation sessions during its weekday #HomeBodies Power Hour at 4 p.m. on Instagram Live. Contact Athleta at 713-463-8847 for details.

Take your mind off of stressful things by enjoying indoor activities. Play board games and cards games. Put together a jigsaw puzzle. Join an online book club or listen to soothing music. Focus on arts-and-crafts projects. Memorial District shops can get supplies to you when you order online for curbside pickup or delivery.

How about trying an online meetup group to connect with people who share some of your interests? Some Meetup.com groups in the Memorial District now gather over remote conferencing services like FaceTime, Skype and Zoom.
Take time to maintain your health and wellness during Stress Awareness Month and every day.
In April, we celebrate both Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24) as a way to encourage environmentally friendly decisions and learn about positive steps we can take to create a more sustainable future.
Integrate sustainability into your shopping decisions, and support companies that follow eco-friendly business practices, such as The Vitamin Shoppe Memorial City. Their Omega-3 fish oil products have won awards for defending marine environments. Check out Lush at Memorial City, whose handmade and vegetarian bath, body, and cosmetic products contain environmentally safe ingredients that will not damage Houston’s waterways.
You may want to consider different transportation choices whenever possible. How about biking? If you need a bike, you can rent one at the Houston Bike Share’s Pearl CityCentre Station.
When it comes to Arbor Day specifically, the number one goal is to encourage people to plant trees. Home Depot has beautiful trees for purchase online at reasonable prices. You can strengthen your green thumb and observe Arbor Day in a special way.
Within the Memorial District, enjoy the Conrad Sauer Detention Basin and Walking Trail, a lovely landscaped detention pond and walking trail. West Houston Association named this location a winner of its prestigious 2019 Sustainability Stars Award.
Designed for stormwater mitigation, its lush basin also provides a quality walking trail. A visit to this spot is a good way to connect with nature and support environmentally friendly development endeavors.
Texas is full of beauty and natural resources, and it is our job to conserve and preserve our home.
We would love to hear from you. Let us know how you will make a difference on Earth Day and Arbor Day and what daily actions—big or small—you can take to help Mother Nature.
Are you tired of watching movies and TV but not feeling the need for early spring cleaning? Memorial District shops can help you discover new ways to enjoy your time inside. It’s easy to order board games, card games, jigsaw puzzles, books, music and more online for curbside pickup or delivery. Let’s take a look at some ideas from shops in the District:
Board Games and Cards
You may think board games and card games require multiple people to play, but some are perfect for solo players. If you prefer to play games with friends, and you have the same games, try connecting with them online using remote conferencing services like FaceTime, Skype and Zoom. You can order classic, family and strategy games, such as RISK, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and more, from Town and Country Village’s Barnes and Noble, which offers curbside pickup and delivery of online orders.
Jigsaw Puzzles
Jigsaw puzzles are having a moment, and there is a reason; they’re fun! Jigsaw puzzles are an activity for one person or many, and they help you exercise your brain. Whether you want a jigsaw puzzle with 30 pieces or 3,000 pieces, Memorial District shops offer options. Check out Memorial City’s Go! Calendars, Toys and Games, JOANN Fabrics and Crafts and Barnes and Noble. CityCentre’s Urban Outfitters has unique selections, such as a jigsaw puzzle in the shape of a bowl of cereal or a piece of pizza. Get these products shipped right to your door.
LEGO
Building a LEGO set is a fun activity for one person or the whole family. It brings back happy childhood memories for many people, and sets are available for various skill levels. Movie fans might love the variety of LEGO sets related to movies, such as “Avengers,” “Frozen” and “Star Wars.” Up your skill level with LEGO architecture to build a cityscape of an international hub. Sets like these are available at Barnes and Noble.
Book Clubs
Book clubs are for everyone. Find a group with regular check-in dates on Meetup.com or follow a book-club forum on Goodreads.com. Alternatively, read a book from a book club in the Book Club Selections section on the Barnes and Noble website. Read the latest selection from Oprah’s Book Club, Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club or Good Morning America’s Book Club.
Order a physical copy of the book from Barnes and Noble or download an eBook. Are you in a book club with check-in dates? Schedule meeting times and host a book-club meeting over a remote conferencing service. If you are in a more loosely based book club, simply participate in forums with online friends.
Music
There’s nothing like good music to brighten the day. Find cassettes, CDs, and vinyl records at the Barnes and Noble website. Urban Outfitters also has a wonderful selection of surprising cassettes and vinyl as well as headphones, record players and speakers. Similarly, the company’s Instruments and Audio Equipment section has interactive products and musical instruments, such as an electric piano, a harmonica or a ukulele. Just remember to be mindful of your neighbors!
Last but not least, pass the time with arts and crafts. JOANN Fabrics and Crafts and CityCentre’s Paper Source have good suggestions for letting out the inner craft-maker in you. With all of these options, there is certainly an activity that will help you make the most of your time indoors.

For most classes, all you’ll need is a yoga mat and a water bottle. Take a look at this class from Revolution Studio to get an idea:
Additionally, the Memorial City Club offers virtual classes for its members, and Life Time Fitness offers its most popular classes on demand. Be sure to check out the options available at both of these great gyms.

At the Memorial District, your health and safety are our top concerns. Currently, we are seeing daily updates and changes to our everyday lives due to an evolving situation with the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. The Memorial District is a popular place to eat, shop and play but, in order to keep the virus from spreading, federal and local officials are implementing safety measures to protect the community. This means businesses are operating differently to ensure social distancing.
Memorial City Mall, has closed through March 31. Target is remaining open for now but many shops in other centers have chosen to close. We ask that you check their individual websites and to check with specific stores and before heading out to places in CityCentre, Town & Country Village or Village Plaza at Bunker Hill,
While bars are closed, many restaurants are offering meals via take out, so please continue to order meals for carry-out or delivery from them and plan to return when local officials determine it is safe for people to congregate in public places.
In the meantime, HEB and Randall’s, regularly restock supplies and offer pick-up options for shoppers. And both grocery stores are hiring people to help with stocking, checkout and curbside delivery service.
Additionally, the Memorial District is home to the highest-quality medical care. Memorial Hermann Hospital and Texas Children's Urgent Care are both here—as are several additional medical and urgent care centers. Memorial Hermann has created a resource page that is updated daily to help you understand the latest information regarding COVID-19.
Remain vigilant with your health and be sure to follow doctors' recommendations on staying healthy during this time. Below are links to information about COVID-19 from local, state, national and international health organizations:
