After a successful opening of their first Houston shop in The Heights, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams opened their doors to a second location in H-Town at 801 Town & Country Boulevard in the Memorial District.

You can bet your bottom dollar that it’s a must-try! If you’re looking for a healthy, fabulous tasting ice cream, look no further than Jeni’s. These ice creams are formulated without synthetic flavorings, dyes, stabilizers or emulsifiers. Each bite has a uniquely smooth texture with buttercream body, bright flavor and a clean finish.

Jeni’s is "devoted to making better ice creams and bringing people together," according to its mission statement. With its new location here in the Memorial District, you can try out all their delicious flavors, such as Buttercream Birthday Cake, Roasted Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, Boston Cream Pie, and Lemon and Blueberries Parfait.

Father’s Day is the perfect time to show Dad, Grandpa, or really any great father figure in your life how much they mean you. Here in the Memorial District, you can find classy, jazzy gifts that will make Dad feel extra special. Plus, the Memorial District is packed with exciting restaurants Dad will love, and you’re sure to find great Father’s Day deals at many of them. Here are some of the most exciting Father’s Day deals we have uncovered.

The Westin Houston Memorial City is hosting a Father’s Day brunch at 024 Grille. It includes the $21 Steak and Eggs Breakfast Special or the Father’s Day $34 Ribeye Special for dinner. Then, over at another fan-favorite Memorial District hotel, the Moran CITYCENTRE, you can find a special Father’s Day gift card deal where Dad gets a $100 gift card every night of his stay to steak restaurants. These include Capital Grille, Eddie V’s, Seasons 52, or Yard House. They’re calling it a “STEAKation,” and honestly, that word should be added to the dictionary because it sounds like heaven for meat lovers who want some R&R.

Over at Coach, you can find fashionable Father’s Day gifts made of leather. They have leather backpacks, leather jackets, leather wallets; you get the idea. If Dad loves leather, Coach should be at the top of your list of retailers where you can find great gifts.

Among the incredible Father’s Day ideas Pottery Barn worked up this year, you can find a pool table, a bocce ball set, and a wooden dart board cabinet. Their standing turntable is another great idea if Dad has records lying around and wants to take a musical stroll down memory lane.

Give Dad the gift of pampering at Massage Envy, where you can get a free $20 promo card if you purchase $80 in gift cards through June 20, 2021. You have to purchase this on-site, so call the Memorial District location at 713-457-3689 to learn more and make an appointment. Then, why not complete the pampering experience with some manly fragrances for Dad from Bath and Body Works? This year, you can find men’s body washes in fragrances like “Hero” and “Legend.” He will love the scent and the sentiment!

A great Father’s Day gift needs a great Father’s Day card, and you can find excellent selections at Paper Source stores here in the Memorial District.

When it comes to food, the Memorial District has all the options. Every cuisine you can think of is represented in our community, so we have ideas no matter what Dad’s favorite food might be. Of course, a great steak might be the first choice. Check out Perry’s Steakhouse at Memorial City for delicious steak dinners.

Churrascos at Memorial City has a delicious Father’s Day brunch planned from 10 p.m. to 4 p.m., so if Dad is a meat lover, check out this Brazilian-inspired restaurant. Similarly, Texas de Brazil has Brazilian flavors he will absolutely love (and devour). This restaurant has all the meat Dad can eat, and if he likes great drinks, try the caipirinhas.

Don’t forget dessert! Pick up some delicious cookies from Tiff’s Treats or some fun Father’s Day-inspired cupcakes from Three Brothers Bakery.

Maybe this year, instead of a physical gift, give Dad an experience. For example, you could check out all of the fun escape room activities at The Escape Game in CITYCENTRE. This experience is fun for the whole family, and it is also budget friendly and has been included in Best Of lists for Houston activities.

Last but not least, if you are struggling to think of what Dad might like this year, check out our recent blog post about summer activity and shopping ideas in the Memorial District to find some inspiration. We shared great tips for anyone thinking about camping, fishing, swimming, grilling, and catching movies this summer, and those activities have Dad written all over them.

However you spend Father’s Day with Dad this year, be sure to cherish every moment and enjoy making memories here in the Memorial District.

When you think of June, July, and August, do happy images of camping, fishing, swimming, grilling, and catching the latest summer blockbuster at the movie theater come to mind? They do for us here in the Memorial District, where warm-weather summertime activities are already in full swing.

Want to go camping? Get everything you need for a camping adventure with merchandise from Sun and Ski Sports or Academy Sports + Outdoors. Pick up camping gear like tents, sleeping bags, folding chairs, hammocks, lighting, and outdoor games. Plus, look for the hiking gear you might need for a trek, including boots and hydration packs. The stores also have coolers for your food and drinks and backpacks or duffel bags for your luggage.

If fishing is part of your summertime plan, you need to make a trip to Fishing Tackle Unlimited to get everything you need. Reeds, rods, fishing accessories, and even apparel are available at the Memorial District's top shop for everything fishing.

How about trying a cooking class from the experts at Sur La Table at CITYCENTRE. This summer, you could learn to make chocolate macarons or take an introductory course on making sushi. Take a grilling class on July 3 to get ready for Independence Day celebrations the following day. They have courses on Korean barbecue, Chinese dim sum, Italian risotto, and other international flavors. Check out their available classes here.

The summer blockbuster is back this year with big movies like A Quiet Place Part 2 and Cruella already out and other big names on the way. You can find all the hits at Studio Movie Grille CITYCENTRE and Cinemark Memorial City. Take a moment to see all of the deals on their websites. If you have a summer party coming up and want to plan something with AC indoors, you might be able to rent out an entire movie theater for you and your whole crew for the same price you would pay normally. Seriously, look into this. It’s a fabulous deal!

Few things in life are better than an outdoor pool with cool water on a hot day, and with help from Leslie's Pool Supplies, Service and Repair, the dream can be reality every day this summer. Leslie's has all of the pool products for you, whether you need chemicals like chlorine, equipment like heaters, maintenance products like filters, or pool toys like foam floats and noodles.

This year, you can also keep cool with a sweet treat from the brand-new Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams CITYCENTRE. This company is "devoted to making better ice creams and bringing people together," according to its mission statement. With its new location here in the Memorial District, you can try out all their delicious flavors, such as Buttercream Birthday Cake, Roasted Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, Boston Cream Pie, and Lemon and Blueberries Parfait.

Gabrielle (Gabby) Luevano, Administrative Assistant

The Memorial Management District is delighted to welcome Gabrielle (Gabby) Luevano to the role of Administrative Assistant. Gabby will assist the Memorial District's Executive Director, Pat Walters.

"I am excited to join the team and make a difference," Gabby said.

Gabby holds a Bachelor of Arts from Houston Baptist University and previously worked in the education space. To the position, she brings administrative skills, such as graphic design and organization. She also studied video production techniques, which she hopes to utilize to produce content to showcase outdoor spaces and new developments.

"The Memorial District is a community full of excitement and potential," Gabby said. "I am proud to be part of it, and I am eager to learn new things."

Already, Gabby has gained a new understanding of land usage maps and drawing plans for traffic. She looks forward to using and expanding upon her Photoshop skills for landscape and road usage projects.

Before joining the team, Gabby was a fan of the Memorial District. She frequented restaurants and shops in the area and spent time in her favorite outdoor spots and coffee shops. She loves the holidays in the Memorial District because it is fun to see activities and decorations from season to season.

Many of the Memorial District’s summertime activities for children are back and better than ever this year. There is something for every child, whether you prefer activities that are academic, active, or just plain fun.

Life Time Athletic CITYCENTRE’s family-friendly activities this summer include Super Builder Challenge on June 5, Tween Game Night on June 5, and Slime and Splash on June 19. Each event takes place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Super Builder Challenge is a competition event where children build with blocks. Tween Game Night is a time for kids to have a blast with board games. During Slime and Splash, children make messy slime of different colors in a science lab. Each event includes a pizza party. Keep an eye on summertime activities at Life Time Athletic CITYCENTRE here.

Each summer, Memorial City Mall offers a wide range of activities for children. Here are some of the events on offer so far.

Head over to Frolic’s Castle, the world’s largest indoor soft play space, every Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Friday Funday with Frolic. Memorial City Mall’s mascot, Frolic, will make a special appearance and take pictures with the kids.

Next, bring your children to the Square at Memorial City Mall for Kidtastic, Summer in the City, an event series just for kids. Two events are on the schedule so far for June. First, on June 9, check out Kidtastic’s Art at Frolic’s Castle.

Then, on June 23, it’s Kidtastic’s Magic with Michael Blanco.

Plus, don’t forget that Friday Family Movie Night is back with free family-friendly movies at a new time, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the Square at Memorial City Mall. Watch from the grassy area or one of the fabulous patios surrounding the Square. On June 11, catch Thor: Ragnarok.

You can now register for summer camps at Adventure Kids Memorial City. Each week has a different theme, and there are dynamic group activities, hands-on creative projects, and fun games each day. These day camps run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. KinderCare at Bunker Hill also has a great 12-week summer program for children. The daily activities are designed to make your child’s summertime exciting and memorable.

Help your children devote time to important academic activities over the summer with mathematics tutoring from Mathnasium Memorial City. Keep those mathematics skills sharp with just a few hours of tutoring each week. Similarly, check out the tutoring opportunities for young musicians at Sessions Music and Virtuosi of Houston.

Are you wondering about the safety of in-person events for children? According to Jean Raphael, MD, MPH of Texas Children’s Hospital in the Memorial District, the benefits of children participating in in-person activities this summer may outweigh other concerns if safety measures are a priority at those camps. In the Memorial District, our businesses take safety seriously. You can anticipate the continued practice of physical distancing, masking, and hand-washing at all events. Learn more here.

As you plan activities for your children this year, look to the Memorial District first!

Many Memorial District restaurants will have delicious brunch specials over the Memorial Day Weekend. For example, enjoy the "Ultimate Brunch Buffet" at Churrascos until 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 30. Keep an eye out for updates on our Facebook page.

Then, on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, celebrate with Memorial City's Remember and Honor event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a patriotic presentation of colors and a majestic flyover by the Commemorative Air Force. CITYCENTRE and the Weingarten Art Group are proud to present the third annual Art @ CITYCENTRE! This rotating art program features exciting exhibitions of works from Texas-based artists and galleries, such as Brad Tucker, Lou Peralta, and Ansen Seale. You can see the art on display now through June 26 in lobby spaces across CITYCENTRE.

"Each of these artists brings a fresh perspective to their work: Brad Tucker explores color and texture, Lou Peralta pushes the boundaries of portraiture and Ansen Seale teases the unusual out of the usual," said Lea Weingarten, Principal, and Founder of Weingarten Art Group. "All together, they offer a new dimension to CITYCENTRE's art program and to its multiple and intellectually curious audiences." Weingarten Art Group partners with clients and artists to plan, curate, develop and manage public and private art collections.

"Curated art in commercial buildings and spaces like CITYCENTRE is on the rise, largely due to strategic partnerships with art experts such as Weingarten Art Group," added Robert Williamson, Senior Vice President, Investment Management. "By showcasing Art @ CITYCENTRE's free, immersive exhibitions, we are not only able to provide a public voice for these talented artists but are also able to attract a new audience through our loyal visitors and tenants alike."

Austin-based artist Brad Tucker's "Springtime Skies" exhibition decorates the walls of the newly renovated lobby in CITYCENTRE 2. Then, you can stop by the lobby of CITYCENTRE 3 to browse the eye-catching artwork of Lou Peralta's "Disassemble" exhibition. The works by fourth-generation portrait photographer Peralta helps people build appreciation for Mexican identities.

Over in the lobby of CITYCENTRE 4, you can see work by San Antonio Art League & Museum's Artist of The Year, Ansen Seale. This innovative installation is called "Texas and Other Places." Seale makes the images with a camera he created.

"I hope people can share my sense of wonder at how odd and mysterious the world around us is. I have a deep joy of discovery in the designs of everyday things we use and build," said Seale.

Want to check out these beautiful works? Visit CITYCENTRE during regular business hours from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. CITYCENTRE 3 is also open from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturdays.
