Find New Artistic Outlets and Creative Activities in the Memorial District

January 13, 2021

Music, performing arts, and other creative outlets help people build their self-confidence, express their feelings, and appreciate a newfound hobby. The Memorial District is proud to have excellent opportunities for a variety of interests.

Cinema and Theatre

Queensbury Theatre works hard to bring performances to the Memorial District. For example, check out Brand New Day, the 2021 Queensbury Theatre Gala, on February 21, 2021. Furthermore, the Tribble School, which operates from Queensbury Theatre, helps students of all ages and backgrounds develop skills and showcase their talent.

If you are a fan of art films, check out Cinemark Memorial City. They offer artistic productions in addition to the biggest blockbusters.

Gymnastics

Stars Gymnastics in the Memorial District promotes gymnastics along with the development of self-esteem in its students. Students can begin as early as one year of age so that children can acquire skills early. The studio also has activities for parents and guardians of students. Some virtual classes, such as off-campus physical education, help young people in a virtual school experience.

Ice Skating

Ice Skate Memorial City is the perfect place to build ice-skating skills and, in turn, build muscle and allow you to express yourself. Think ice skating is just for young people? Think again. While ice skating has fantastic benefits for young artistic athletes, there are many benefits for adults ready to discover their inner Kristi Yamaguchi. Rejuvenate yourself through a comprehensive cardiovascular exercise that targets your core and legs and learn moves that tell a beautiful story.

Music

Family-owned business Adagio Academy of Music wants young learners to discover and develop their music performance skills with instruction for drum, guitar, piano, and voice. The company's founder is a professor of Audio Engineering with decades of professional experience sharing music with people. The company offers lessons that are both fun and easy to help students at an appropriate pace.

Virtuosi of Houston, a Premier Young Artists Chamber Orchestra right here in the Memorial District, takes young musicians on a path toward musical excellence with opportunities for people with musical backgrounds and interests. Virtuosi has three chamber orchestra performances, each with ten rehearsals in the weeks before a concert. Professors from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston lead the group and help the young musicians build character and musical instrument skills.

Model Trains

Want a hands-on outlet where you can learn carpentry, design, engineering, and history? Houston Tinplate Operators Society has activities to educate people on model railroading. The year-round permanent location is at Memorial City, and club members have regular meetings to perform layout work, discuss solutions to problems, organize training sessions, and run trains.

Crafting

Hone your crafting skills with help from JOANN Fabrics and Crafts. Helpful videos and tutorials can turn anyone into an expert craft maker. Make fun gifts, useful household items, or turn your passion into a new business venture; crafting can be fun and beneficial.

All of this and more is available right here in the Memorial District!
