Earth Day, Arbor Day, and Making a Difference Every Day

April 21, 2020

In April, we celebrate both Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24) as a way to encourage environmentally friendly decisions and learn about positive steps we can take to create a more sustainable future.

Integrate sustainability into your shopping decisions, and support companies that follow eco-friendly business practices, such as The Vitamin Shoppe Memorial City. Their Omega-3 fish oil products have won awards for defending marine environments. Check out Lush at Memorial City, whose handmade and vegetarian bath, body, and cosmetic products contain environmentally safe ingredients that will not damage Houston’s waterways.

You may want to consider different transportation choices whenever possible. How about biking? If you need a bike, you can rent one at the Houston Bike Share’s Pearl CityCentre Station.

When it comes to Arbor Day specifically, the number one goal is to encourage people to plant trees. Home Depot has beautiful trees for purchase online at reasonable prices.  You can strengthen your green thumb and observe Arbor Day in a special way.

Within the Memorial District, enjoy the Conrad Sauer Detention Basin and Walking Trail, a lovely landscaped detention pond and walking trail. West Houston Association named this location a winner of its prestigious 2019 Sustainability Stars Award.

Designed for stormwater mitigation, its lush basin also provides a quality walking trail. A visit to this spot is a good way to connect with nature and support environmentally friendly development endeavors.

Texas is full of beauty and natural resources, and it is our job to conserve and preserve our home.

We would love to hear from you. Let us know how you will make a difference on Earth Day and Arbor Day and what daily actions—big or small—you can take to help Mother Nature.
