Whichever way you celebrate Mother's Day this year, we hope you have a wonderful time making someone else's day extra special!
This summer, treat yourself to some much deserved rest and relaxation without the hassle of airport security lines or spending hours in a car by planning a “staycation” right here in the Memorial District.
The first step is choosing luxurious accommodations at one of the many hotels in the area. Don’t want your pooch to be left behind? They can join you at the stylish Hotel ZaZa. Making it a fun-filled family vacation? Enjoy a kitchen in each suite or grill dinner on the on-site gazebo grill at the Candlewood Suites. Want to be connected to Memorial City Mall and all the fun and shopping it offers? Stay at the Westin Memorial City. Or are you looking for a romantic or relaxing getaway? The Hotel Sorella has several packages from which to choose. They've also generously offered our readers the opportunity to win a one-night stay at the hotel! Simply like and comment “I want a staycation” by August 5, 2018, on the associated Memorial District’s Facebook post and you'll be entered to win a free night at the Hotel Sorella.
Next is the hard part - choosing what to do! With so many options there is definitely something for everyone. Grab some ice skates and head to the rink at Memorial City Mall, catch the latest blockbuster and a meal at the Studio Movie Grill or practice your bowling skills at Bowl & Barrel.
If you want to take it a little slower then book a spa appointment at Beautique Day Spa or a mani/pedi at Bora Bora Pedi-Spa Nails. Don’t forget to check the event calendars for The Square at Memorial City and the Plaza at CityCentre where live music and other summer activities are on the schedule throughout the day and evening.
Of course, be sure to leave some time to go shopping at Memorial City Mall or stroll around the walkable CityCentre. Take a break and cool off with a chilled wine at The Tasting Room or satiate your sweet tooth with a macaron at Sweet. Wrap the evening up one of the many bars and pubs in the areas like The Yard House.
Whether it’s a short one-night staycation or a multi-day vacation, The Memorial District has plenty of things to do right here in your own backyard. So what will your plans be?
This year, the Mother’s Day shopping, dining and weekend events in the Memorial District will make celebrating all mothers’ immeasurably important role more meaningful and memorable than ever. Whether Mom, Grandma, or another mother figure loves a thoughtful gift, a meal filled with delicious food and laughter, or spending quality time with loved ones, the Memorial District is the perfect place to spend Mother’s Day.
Beloved Texas jewelry makers like Kendra Scott have gorgeous gifts Mom will cherish for years to come. Browse their collection of timeless classic and new styles on their Mother’s Day Gift Guide here. Similarly, James Avery offers artisan jewelry such as charms, pendants, and more that will remind Mom of how much she is loved. Browse their Mother’s Day Catalog here.
Looking for something unexpected to surprise and delight her? Bring a piece of china Mom treasures to China Baroque. They can use the pattern or the piece itself to create an exceptional, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry for her. Perhaps she needs new stationery, or greeting cards? Meet with the experts at Paper Source CITYCENTRE to find or create just the right thing. They also have a special Mother’s Day Collection here.
Every Mom deserves a little “me” time, and self-care is always a good choice for busy, hardworking Moms. If Mom’s idea of a lovely day is relaxing during a quiet manicure and pedicure, bring her to Anthony Vince Nail Spa, where she can sip on complimentary champagne, wine, cocktails, or nonalcoholic refreshments during her VIP treatment on Mother’s Day. Treat her to a gorgeous blowout at Brush & Blush Blow Dry Bar or a spa day at the Beautique Town & Country.
Know a health and wellness-minded Mom with a great workout at the top of her wish list? The new Burn Bootcamp is a women-only lifestyle facility designed to transform lives through a positive, encouraging, and supportive environment. Offering high-intensity 45-minute sessions that are different every day, get Mom a free trial here. Afterward, she can put her feet up with Lush Cosmetic’s handmade bath bombs, hand creams, eye masks, and more that will leave her feeling refreshed, renewed, and revived after a hard workout (and hard year of taking care of others).
No Mother’s Day is complete without a delectable meal shared with loved ones. Toast to Mom at The Moran CITYCENTRE’s Radio Milano Mother’s Day brunch. She’ll get to start her morning with a welcome mimosa and a special selection of delicious menu options while enjoying live music by guitarist Victor De La Garza.
Or taste-test Perry’s Steakhouse and Grill’s new Filet Mignon Stuffed Roast Mother’s Day special, a filet mignon stuffed with sautéed spinach, wild mushrooms, garlic, onions, fresh herbs and three cheeses. Don’t miss the orange vanilla cheesecake for dessert!
Does the warmer weather have Mom feeling like a margarita? Cyclone Anaya’s is always a good idea!
Speaking of summer right around the corner, why not try something seasonal at Seasons 52, where the menu changes with the season to feature 100% fresh produce.
Maybe after a few years staying put, Mom has travel on her mind. Take a culinary adventure to Italy at Brio Tuscan Grille, to South America at Sal y Pimienta, or travel to the City of Light at Sweet Paris.
For a taste of true Americana, wine and dine Mom at The Capital Grille, which will open early on Mother’s Day and serve a full menu of contemporary classics, as well as three brunch features from 11 am to 2 pm. Eddie V’s Prime Seafood will feature a prix fixe, three-course brunch in addition to the full menu, and $9 Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Bellinis. For a casual and cool get together, don’t miss the Ranch Waters at the The General Public, where it will be happy hour from 3-6 pm.
Have a wine lover in your life? Spoil Mom with Houston’s largest wine selection, and brunch or dinner specials at the Tasting Room. For brunch, the Tasting Room menu will feature savory Nutella Crepes with strawberries, and aged balsamic. The dinner menu includes Grilled Lamb Chops with tomato jam Brussels sprouts, horseradish whipped potatoes, and a Sherry pan sauce.
Top it off with a little something sweet! Deliver warm cookies in special Mother’s Day packaging from Tiff’s Treats or a pick up a special desert from the incomparable Three Brothers Bakery.
There are endless ways to say “I love you” and, no matter her style, spending quality time surely tops every Mom’s list. This Mother’s Day weekend, bring Mom to the Houston Orchid Society’s Annual Show and Sale at Memorial City Mall, where she will be able to browse exquisite exhibits featuring orchids, orchid arrangements, corsages, and orchid collectables. Orchids from around the world will even be available to purchase. Don’t forget your camera!
For a traditional flower arrangement, visit the annual Mother’s Day pop-up flower shop at Memorial City Mall. Watch for an announcement on Memorial City’s event page for details.
On both Saturday and Sunday, the whole family can come to CITYCENTRE for “Sunday Night in the Plaza”, an evening of live music ranging from jazz to pop and classic rock to country.
Finally, to care for mothers everywhere, consider donating blood during the May Gulf Coast Regional Blood Drive at Memorial City.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Memorial District businesses have missed you. Now, many have permission to reopen under strict guidelines from Texas health officials, and they are excited to welcome you back for safe, regulated dine-in experiences, in-store shopping, and more.
Guidelines vary from business to business. For example, some service businesses will avoid providing services that take a long time. People will keep six feet apart, and staff members will sanitize workstations frequently.
Some businesses take extra precautions, such as allowing patrons to enter by appointment only. Others provide hand sanitizer for patrons to use before entering and upon leaving.
Be sure to ask restaurants if they provide meals for frontline workers, such as medical professionals. Some give customers the option to purchase an additional meal that goes directly to frontline workers.
Most companies continue to offer curbside and online services for patrons who are not ready to enter buildings. Some businesses follow a 25% occupancy rule, a guideline from the Texas government and health officials.
Visit our Business Directory to find contact information for the organizations in our district. Call ahead to learn what services and stipulations are in place.
Here are details on current hours and services from many Memorial District businesses.

Ready for a new look or just need to your hair or nails done? The Beautique at Town and Country Village has been giving Houston the best in beauty since 2007. This modern, locally owned salon and spa employs 60 beauty specialists, who offer premier products and services for clients’ hair, nails, and skin. Makeup applications are also available, as are lessons on makeup styles and color palettes.
Ready for a day of pampering? Packages range from everyday manicures and pedicures up to a whole day of beauty that includes head-to-toe services with lunch from local restaurants.
Beautique also offers a selection of products and services for men. Whether it’s a haircut and color, a nail service, or a skin treatment, Beautique knows how to tailor its services to the guys on its list.
And you can host a party at the salon —birthdays, business functions, weddings, and more. Plus, they offer gift cards, perfect for a friend, a family member or a special gift anytime during the year.
Richard Proto, co-owner of Beautique, described interacting with the clients as the best part about working at the salon and spa. The staff enjoy becoming a part of their clients’ lives and feeling like their extended family.
“It takes a lot to come between a Texas woman and her hair,” joked Mr. Proto. He explained, however, that too many salons lose clients because the staff does not bring enough new ideas to the table. Then, when clients want a change, they switch salons. For this reason, Beautique works differently.
Beautique makes education a priority for its stylists and provides learning opportunities. Stylists regularly attend conferences and seminars to learn about the latest trends and techniques. Afterward, stylists can offer new solutions and suggestions to their clients, and they can encourage clients to try fresh looks and styles.
Beautique’s stylists are experts on conventional styling techniques but also understand all of today’s trends, such as extensions and bayallage color techniques. Clients know that Beautique is a name they can trust.
Plus, Beautique gives back. They recently raised funds to support the nonprofit breast health care organization The Rose, which offers women access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and care.
Beautique is open seven days a week. Free parking is available, and the salon is in a fantastic spot in Town and Country Village near cafés, restaurants, and shops.
